Hi folks, so I've heard a bunch of talk of some of the great cartoon shows of our youths but there hasn't been much talk of the really, really bad ones. Probably its because as we grow up we tend to try and forget them due to how terrible they were. What's even worst is when you were forced to watch these shows due to a sibling wanting to watch it or even worst your parents thinking that you would possibly learn something from a terrible cartoon show.

I'll start off, I'm a kid of the 90's and I hated the show Captain Planet. That show was terrible, a superhero who only wore red spandex underwear and rocked a green mullet. I have no idea why that show existed in the first place or ran for as long as it did, but I remember I would dread every time that theme song went on. What's worst was as a kid I felt that grown ups were trying to force feed that show down kids throats by having captain planet at children events in around the city I grew up in. Any who that's mine, what are some of the bad ones that you can recall and why was it terrible?

It's from an animated TV movie, but this thing was on TV surprisingly often for some reason. Here's one of its highlights:

I always thought Angela Anaconda was kind of annoying. Oh, and bloody Cramp Twins. Ugh.

Franklin the Turtle. My cousin and I used to stay with our grandparents while we waited for our parents to get off work. Seriously, even as a kid I hated that show. So usually I would sneak upstairs to my grandpa's office to watch my VHS tapes of Batman the Animated Series. I think I watched Heart of Ice like two hundred times.

Care Bears. I had two sisters.

#5 Posted by Trav (214 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

Thundercats. That show was terrible, and Snarffluse or whatever it was is one of many reasons. COME AT ME.

It seems like My Little Pony is a fucking lame cartoon that the world has to endure these days, can I have that as my answer?

#7 Posted by johnaze (65 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

The fantastic voyages of Sinbad.. It was just so boring!

Pretty much only watched it because Batman: The animated series was on afterwards

Thundercats, Captain Planet

Everyone loves to talk about how great Doug was but c'mon people; that show was fucking boring.

I'll catch hell for this, but X-Men, G.I. Joe, and Gargoyles. That kind of show just wasn't my thing back then.

Oh no you di'in't!

I always remember it was when Pokemon started in England. That was the point where I was done with watching cartoons daily. Even as a kid I thought it was utter nonsense, liked/like the idea just hated the horrible presentation and voice acting.

#12 Posted by planetfunksquad (148 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

I hated any and all Disney cartoons but I was forced to sit through fucking ALL OF THEM by my mum. I just hated the musical bits. Yeah.

#13 Posted by believer258 (7899 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

If a cartoon came on that I did not want to watch I simply did not watch it, so I can't really think of an answer.

#14 Posted by Yummylee (18167 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

Oh, and I never liked Recess.

#15 Posted by I_Stay_Puft (1048 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

@johnaze: Wait was this show on like early in the morning like at 5-6 am in the morning? Cause I remember a show like this along with Sherlock Holmes in the far off blade runner future being on before the WB cartoon hours began.

#16 Posted by FreakAche (2870 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

@gaminghooligan: Really? I have pretty good memories of Franklin.

#17 Posted by BillyTheKid (432 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

Cap'n Planet.

That show was the super shit (in a bad way)

I never liked Pokemon, either. Even back then I thought Ash was an annoying turd, especially for how he kept giving away/setting free all of his best Pokemen!

Luckily none, I was the only kid in my family who loved to watch cartoons so when I watched cartoons it was only cartoons I loved.

Never liked scooby doo.

Honestly I don't remember any of the really bad shows because I probably have blocked them from my subconscious.

I'm going thought the wikipedia list of animated shows that came out in the 90's in america right now and we had a lot of shit I wasn't even aware of.

For example in '95 there was a 13 episode run of a Darkstalkers cartoon. It looks god awful.

#22 Edited by I_Stay_Puft (1048 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

@JeanLuc: I f'in loved the Darkstalkers cartoon, this was actually before I knew it was based on an awesome arcade fighting game. You can tell that my mind was blown when I found this out at my local arcade. I remember this show along with the first Dragonball series would air on Sundays an hour right before I had to go to church, this was the best part of that day.

- Looking back now, yeah the show is pretty lame.

Oh, my ironic love of Captain Planet is too strong...

I hated that educational stuff where they were breaking 4th wall.

#27 Posted by MyNiceIceLife (554 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

I can't think of anything, either that or I have completely hidden the fact that i hated them from my mind. I may not have been enthralled by something like Captain Planet, but i watched it because it was on in the morning before school.

Captain Planet.
And that Sonic cartoon that wasn't Sonic SatAM.

Oh oh, and James Bond Jr. though mostly because the fucking intro song got stuck in my head.

I was never forced to watch cartoons I did not want to. Thankfully I suppose.

#32 Edited by Akyho (1114 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

@JeanLuc: I think the big question is this.

Also Return of the Killer Tomatoes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aIXhmygh3A

and ofcourse the Cartoon that followed..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtURoWuzfpE

However cream of the crop was ofcourse Hulk Hogans ROCK N WRESTLING!

Makes me wanna walk out into the streets of New york pointing at folks and getting them to rush me pumping my way with that music!

I watched them all and there is tones more folks just like all these.

#33 Posted by 49th (1802 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

Cramp Twins. Ugh, worst shit ever.

#34 Edited by Kidavenger (2247 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

#35 Posted by Starks94 (21 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

I'll catch he'll for this but I always had shitfit when ever Zelda would come on instead of Super Mario Bros

#36 Posted by Akyho (1114 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

@Starks94: WEEEELL EXCOOOSSEEE ME PRINCESS!

Simply from that line, I think your are allowed to not like Zelda cartoon.

I am still trying to figure what was that one bad cartoon I hated.

#37 Edited by I_Stay_Puft (1048 posts) - 4 months, 8 days ago

I was a little bit older when this show Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century was on, but I remember catching a few episodes early in the morning on Saturdays. From what I remember they found a frozen Sherlock Holmes and resuscitated him in the 22nd century. After that a creepy robot wore a Watson mask and acted like Watson as a way to not shock Sherlock to the fact that he's in the future. WTF...

@Video_Game_King: I found it entertaining most of the time, but much prefer the movie they released over the tv show.

I couldn't stand The Raggy Dolls shit was just weird and not in a good way.

#41 Posted by SomeJerk (2096 posts) - 4 months, 7 days ago

Dr Snuggles, Carebears, despite my youngest sister being four years older than me. Carebears I understand but creepy rotund fart is scary. Even scarier now that I'm old enough to make all those connections. I would never visit a Dr named Snuggles. Especially a creepy rotund fart of one, with clown pants. Living in a barrel. Euuurgh.

So I started watching anime and Charles Nonsens instead. Charles Nonsens is a (not safe for work cartoon'y Swedish piece of mega-insanity, youtube the intro and hold your jaw.

Scooby Doo. The new ones are good and from the old ones I kind of dug some of the guest star episodes. But overall, not a fan.

#46 Posted by AssInAss (1904 posts) - 4 months, 7 days ago

It's gotta be either Care Bears or My Little Pony. And the Care Bears movies actually gave me nightmares.

As a young boy, I don't know, too girly for me. Not that I only watched action cartoons. I loved Arthur, Magic School Bus, Rugrats, etc.

I grew up in the 80s, and so sat through some pretty terrible cartoon shows. Nobody "forced" me to watch them, but I was a kid, so I'd sit through anything if it was animated. Rubik The Amazing Cube was particularly awful, even by shitty 80s Sat. morning cartoon-show standards.

Scooby was a blind spot for me as a young'n- loved it, but it's one of those shows you look back at now and say, "How did I watch that every day after school?"
