Why is not pirating so much more difficult

So I bought a new SSD and did a clean install using my upgrade only version of windows 7. I no longer had my windows XP so this was pretty much my only option. So I gave a call to Microsoft and thought "hey I'll just explain what happened and they will give my an alternate key to activate it." I was correct in this assumption, but it took Microsoft an hour and 20 min of me repeating my key to them over the phone and being transferred around and repeating my key again and again to get them to finally give me the alternate key.

Contrast this with spending about 5 min to download a keygen and just entering that. Why is trying to do things the right way so much more difficult? Don't they know they are competing with free and peoples moral compass?

Don't know if this is for all versions but the upgrade of windows 7 home premium doesn't even require an old O/S to be installed. It only ever requires you to input the key on the upgrade box.

Why does the teenage drop out have a new car? Why do the parents go on vacation every other month? Why do they have donated food delivered to their door every week? Why do they have a new born baby after having a young child taken by the government less than a year ago? Why do I have to work and pay taxes while that entire family sits around doing nothing and live like fucking kings?

What's worse is people who refuse to take your money as you hold it at them. I can think of three separate occasions in the last 6 months where I went to buy something, and they demanded I set up an account or subscribe to their mailing list before they would accept my money. If selling my information to advertisers is more profitable than the products you're selling, maybe you should quit now.

I had an issue with Microsoft office. An hour and a half later I just told them " well this has been a waste of my damn time, I'll figure it out myself." 5 minutes later I did.

Moral of the story: don't call microsofts customer service.

I have no problem with piracy if you buy the software honestly and just need it again.

Sure it's technically illegal but it's not morally wrong.

Simple truth for me. I know pirating was wrong when I did it, but I was too goddamn lazy to deal with all the bullshit surrounding legal ways of obtaining that stuff. That's not me excusing or justifying it, that's just how it was. #Truetruth

I raged, I lost. But I still pirate music on a weekly basis because I can get new music before you can actually pay to buy it for free.

Steam, Google Music & Amazon Digital. It is easy to just pay for it and have it backed in case you lose your files.

Honestly, any other reason for not paying for products it is just an excuse.

Because MS wants you to sufferrrrrrrrrrrrr. Should of just downloaded something and clicked a button like I did for my the computer I built for my Aunt last weekend.

I buy all my games but can't always blame people for pirating. Most of the time it's simply because they're cheap and don't want to spend the money I would guess, but every once in awhile there's a good reason for it.

Cool, somewhat related story. I remember I bought a CD from the guy who made the soundtrack for VVVVVV. Well I lost the music and had no way to redownload it without paying for it again..... or stealing it. Well, I decided to send him an email, letting him know of my situation. So the guy replies back with the 320kbps MP3 download and the FLAC free download links for me to use. I will always support this man and his work, I also plan on donating money for him as well.

The reason I brought that story up was because it kinda goes with the pic of Jeff (posted on 1st page) and his description on piracy. If your business model is to treat the customers as best as you can, then they, for the most part, will treat you with respect too. When a company puts out a game with a ton of stuff that doesn't sit right with PC players and is never fixed, expect a lot of pirates. Obviously it's going to happen no matter what though. You're always going to have the people who just won't spend the money. You can't always combat it.
