Ads are ads...I don't see them so it doesn't affect me, but I sympathize for you a little bit. Whatever whiskey needs to do to be a profitable company is fine with me. Once they get big, they can get pickier.
Why is this on Giant Bomb?
Yeah, I don't see any ads whatsoever either and I'm not a paid subscriber (yet!)Giantbomb has ads?
I remember seeing some banking ads a few months ago for about a week, but they went away on their own and haven't returned since. They weren't trashy at all like the ones above though, they were neatly at the bottom in a small rounded corner window with a big X in the corner to close it.
What is going on here?
Here's the post freely available to everyone on the whiskeymedia site, I think MrPeabody or some one else here was referring to, if you're interested in knowing whats going on currently with their Ads.

Glad I subscribe, although I would totally use AdBlock if I didn't. I used it for a very long time before they started the subscriptions. I went Incognito and saw the ads. They were for Axe and shit. They were also the type of ads the pop up into the screen. I don't want to sound all high and mighty about ads. I understand why they need them. Just, do it tastefully and in a way that doesn't betray the core of Whiskey Media philosophy.
Giantbomb doesn't have to stoop to hosting these kind of ads to make money. Rather, they just need to slim down their budget. Here is what I would suggest.
Fire Brad.
Cut down Jeff and Ryan's diet to 50%.
Get rid of all the interns. Make Patrick do all the intern work from now on.
If still short on money, then get rid of other whiskeymedia sites in the following order: Anime vice, screened, then tested.
One way or another GB will survive.
I know, I know. This advice seems outrageous. Listen, we all need to calm down, sleep on this idea for tonight, and get some emotional distance from this situation. Let's get some coffee in the morning and reconvene in order to explore this idea in more detail. Hopefully sleeping on it will allow us to gain some clarity and insight about this predicament.
Ha! I live in Canada, so I don't get your silly ads.
You silly people in your silly country. Ha! Ha ha ha! Ha!

Can I sleep on it, get some coffee and than continue to dislike this idea? And then get more coffee?
I have been getting shitty ads all day but now I'm getting Chase, Ford, and Astro headset ads. Shady ads have not stopped, though.

The internet has had them since the dawn of time, get over it.
EDIT: huh, not the type of ads I though I would see on the whiskey sites...ok, its kinda weird
Yeah, they are much more akin to scams than ads.
I hate that shit. Although, when I logged out I was only getting Delivery.com, Kroger and Papa Johns ads.

That's clearly not what the staff would want from their ads. You should probably download AdBlock Plus for either Firefox or Chrome if you have one of those browsers. Just remember to turn it off when they get the ad problem sorted out. You don't want to become a parasite.
Yeah, it's a shame to see such shady advertising here. WM really needs to do some quality control on their banner ads.Ads like this actually is telling that, the quality ads out there that may actually be relevant to the community just aren't giving WM any reasonable offers. We all saw Jeff's stance on ads on the site before, and for years we have had a pretty good run sticking to his principles. When you got a business to run, and bills start coming up.... beggers can't be chosers after a certain point, and ads like this is sad for that reason.
The problem with this is always that site's work with ad companies/agencies, and they deliver ads. I'm sure it takes time to develop a relationship where they aren't serving your site ads that you know are no good for your userbase.
Okay, so I completely accept that advertisements on Giant Bomb are a necessary component of the site, thousands of people access the site for free and they've gotta make their money somehow, this does not however mean that we are not entitled to complain about the advertisements, and indeed in the past Whiskey seem to have been very welcoming to feedback from the communities about how to make their sites better. I have not seen any of these kinds of ads on the site as I access it from the UK, but to me the problem seems to be that this goes against Whiskey's statement that they aim to provide ads that are relevant to their sitegoers and that supporting advertisements which are aiming to grab peoples' personal data for God knows what purpose heads into a moral grey area and also seems to go against the values that Whiskey have upheld until now. I'm particularly reminded of Jeff speaking at one PAX where he said that the wrong kinds of advertisements and advertisement being used wrongly were a big nuisance on video game websites, and that they wanted to make sure that didn't happen to Giant Bomb.
People could subscribe to get rid of the advertisements and people could use AdBlock, but people shouldn't have too and some people feel as though they are cheating Whiskey over when browsing their sites using AdBlock. Even people who click on these ads, trusting that they're safe because they come from Whiskey haven't done anything wrong. Naive? Yes. Wrong? No, and it seems a little disappointing that people might have to start expecting Whiskey to redirect them to some shady-looking websites. Anyway, I'm not too unhappy at the moment as Mike has said this is only a test, but I hope this test doesn't continue for too long and I really hope this doesn't become a long-term thing for Whiskey, because I love their websites and would hate to see them go the way a lot of other sites have gone.
Shit I thought Whiskey were regulating the type of adverts they let onto the site. Fucks sake.
Also, hooray, they're adding banner ads. The across the bottom of the screen ad was far more preferable IMO. (because you could close it.)
