There's nothing terrible about it (I think that's a box quote)
I didn't love this game so I'm just going to hit some things that stuck out to me.
- Good: The open world driving is cool and the environment is huge.
- Bad: The world is really too big making the interesting points too spread, taking too long to reach anything. I say this after unlocking only 2 of 19 areas. More density would have been much welcomed.
- Good: Varied terrain. Desert, sand dunes, grassy areas, hills, wooded areas, beaches, etc.
- Bad: Everything's pretty much gray/brown, and even though I could tell the difference between the various terrain areas they all pretty much drove the same. And the water, that's instant death. Maybe there are some amphibious vehicles that can deal with a little water but I didn't find them.
- Good: There's driving.
- Bad: The vehicles that I drove (I did not unlock them all) were all floaty and loose feeling. The drivings not horrible and I got used to it but it never felt good.
- Good: There's no good way to spin this one.
- Bad: Load times. Long load times. Every time you want to do something you're faced with a load screen. Even restarting the current race forces the whole thing to reload. Suffice it to say I got tired of the loading.
I wanted to like this game, but for everything I thought was alright about it there was at least one thing I really didn't like. I did not hate the game and if you can get over some of the things that annoyed me (i.e. the load screens) there's a lot of game to play.
The bottom line is I rented the game, for which I'm thankful, and didn't keep it for the full rental period. Take that for what it's worth.
