X360 Review: Fuel
Fuel is a very large game...that is a fact that Codemasters loves to tell every one, the problem is that while they do have 5,000 square miles of none of it feels unique.
The graphics are bland and lack detail that would set them apart from other racing games. One thing that they could have done that would of helped the game is if they had included motion blur because they don't the game in general has a lack of speed, so when you go 100 MPH it seems like you are going at 30 MPH. It is the simple things that keep this game at a lack luster level.
In the game there is "full" weather system, this boils down to just being set pieces at the end of each section. It is very neat and dynamic but they are to far apart. If the whole game was as entertaining as these monments they would have a hit. It is a very surreal moment while you race trying to avoid tornados you can hardly see because of all of the sand that is blowing that covers most of the sun and is for a lack of a better word COOL!
What? Have I not metiond the story? There is a reason why, mainly because there is none, this is not a big surprise because racing game are not story driven. It is supposed to be a post-apocalyptic wasteland and it is just that, land that is a waste, it seems like they call it that just so they don't have to put in traffic or citys. The enviroment is either desert or forest and that is all...5,000 miles of desert and forest...
Most of the cars handle good, the cars that are horrible are the ones that force you to stay on the road. It could be that I am a horrible driver, but if a car comes to stop the moment you get off road and has horrible acceleration that causes you to fail the race... IT IS A BAD CAR. Thankfully not all handle so poorly, the ATV, Buggy and Sun drive like a dream. Most of the races are long and boring, to boil it down you sit there daydreaming and often make a little mistake that ruins the whole race. The whole game lacks the depth it takes to keep the players engaged in the game, it ends up being boring and annoying.
