    Overview

G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor is a side-scrolling action game for the NES and the sequel to G.I. Joe. It uses the Hasbro license, drawing from the toyline and TV series that featured a wide cast of heroic "Joes" as they fought against the villainous "Cobra" organization, led by the masked Cobra Commander.

The game follows on a year after the previous, with the Joes discovering that the new uncharted island base headquarters of Cobra is actually the mythical land of Atlantis. He and the Joes are determined to foil Cobra Commander's next plot and rescue the hostages he has taken.

The game was released exclusively in the North American region.

    Gameplay

G.I. Joe initially has General Hawk travelling across the island of Atlantis, now the Cobra HQ, as he attempts to free hostages and rendezvous with the other Joes. Once the player completes a stage, they recruit a new member of the G.I. Joes and can use them in subsequent levels. Hawk can also recruit optional characters who provide support, such as Gung-Ho and Big Bear.

Each base concludes with a boss fight against a member of Cobra, though the player is often given other objectives to accomplish too, such as rescuing hostages and disarming bombs.

    The playable characters include:

    • General Hawk
    • Snake Eyes
    • Storm Shadow
    • Roadblock
    • Wet Suit
    • Duke
