Based on GTAV engine? Actually coming out in 2021? Any screenshots or anything? Trailer was kind of underwhelming where they maybe should have sat on it until they at least had a few captures, either images or video, right?

There are pretty well substantiated claims that the games have been rebuilt in Unreal. I saw somewhere that they're largely using the same assets just upscaled, but I don't think we'll know anything for sure on that front until we see it.

So basically, no real info yet, but there should be news on it soon.

So I guess BGR is reporting that all current versions on console and PC are going to be removed as well as of Oct 11, 2021.

@wickedcobra03: Ah, thanks for the heads up. Just went ahead and bought the trilogy on Steam. Good chance these new releases will be the ones to play going forward, but eh, you never know.

You can expect all the best (or at least most popular) songs from the soundtracks to have disappeared as has already happened with earlier re-releases of San Andreas and GTA 4. Whether they will be replaced with new songs or the soundtrack is just shorter remains to be seen but Rockstar isn't going to go out and re-negotiate the deals for heavy hitters like Michael Jackson, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, 2Pac and Dr. Dre that probably have very high price tags on them. If you're on the PC then perhaps you can mod those songs back in.

I'll be shocked if it's anything other than those three games re-released in all their 'good at the time'-ness.

San Andreas probably holds up.

It's Vice City I would look forward to. It's the only GTA I've played to near entirety. I had terminal trouble on the pc with a mission towards the end of it, but I loved that game.

Afterwards I fell off The GTA's, every-one I tried.

I'd really though would want to see the improvements...

With how little info they're sharing I'm pretty cautious about this release. It'd be nice to have these in hand but remembering those mobile ports suddenly becoming modern console and PC ports makes me guarded.

Hopefully, they do it right this time and don't charge a ridiculous amount.

Keep the Hot Coffee assets in there so we can truly relive 2005 again.

I'd be very cautious about using the word "Definitive", if there's any bugs or missing songs or anything else out of place or missing then it's automatically not the definitive version of these games, and you can't grab the previously accessible digital versions because they're taking them down, so if you want the actual definitive version of the game you'll have to have a physical copy, it'll be interesting to see how they handle the PC versions as they had completely different aiming and shooting mechanics.
I know the music licensing is a nightmare so expecting that to be intact is ridiculous, but the word "Definitive" is just begging for criticism.

Thanks all. With past re-releases or the games, missing music, and the mobile ports being incredibly lackluster as far as an upgrade, I am very cautious on this one.

I remember buying San Andreas for the Xbox 360 and it was basically just the mobile port on a disc. Very disappointing.

And the PS3 / PS4 versions of the PS2 Classics had no real widescreen support, missing music.

I would hope for this one they would have added:

-Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.

-Twin stick controls with other modern controls.

-90%+ of the music from the originals.

-Significantly upgraded graphics, animations, and physics to at least get close to GTAV type of graphics, even GTAIV would be fine.

-Modern Aiming (not sure if it would make missions too easy, but at least looking at that option).

-Trophies/Achievements

-Upgraded audio for surround and such.

Again, as others have said, labeling as definitive, Rockstar is setting the bar incredibly high on expectations. Are they going to sell a ton of copies, sure, but I also would have almost liked to see a full makeover, especially at 20 years. I know the above is a ton of work, but if you are going to rerelease, it would be nice to see some big changes, otherwise why not leave as is, other than just building some hype up to increase sales and resell?

I'm unsure of what will this game going to be like but there is no doubt that it will be great for those who would love to relive their fun memories of playing GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas.

That price point implies something. They're not slapping 'REMAKE' on the package, though.

@zombiepie: The source on that seems questionable, but I wouldn't be all that surprised. We do live in a world where Square-Enix is currently selling those FF pixel remasters for $12-18 (or $75 for all six).

Reviewers complaining about a Far Cry 6 review being more of the same better steer clear of this trilogy. How many hours of the same style fetch quest are we talking here?

If they make the control scheme more modern and improve the graphics beyond just increasing the resolution? Sure. With the rest of the year looking kinda thin on releases that personally interest me, I’d be happy to jump back into GTA.

They better re-think the trophies in these games, especially Vice City which required cheat codes, a lot of farming for cash, and hours upon hours of using the helicopter with the guns to shoot that tractor trailer in the porn studio (after making sure not to fire a single bullet or encounter anyone that does up until that point) in order to have a flawless shots fired percentage in hopes to raise your criminal ranking up to Godfather level which is apparently near impossible to get otherwise. Good times.

Coming out on the 11th of November, priced at $59, so can't just buy them separately.

Least they kept the style similar to the originals, but that also means it's not a *huge* jump in the visuals.

Even more odd that they're not selling these individually, when they're doing something like this.

They're looking solid. Honestly, they did more work on the visuals than I was expecting, but my expectations were very low.

The quality of life updates like navigation waypoints and quick mission restarts should be nice.

I'm curious to see actual gameplay in action and to know more about the updated controls because that could be the make or break thing.

Happy that San Andreas is coming to Game Pass because it will let me test it out as otherwise I probably wouldn’t really buy this.

As always, gotta stay focused on the completely unrelated choice of music and what it does or doesn't imply about the state of these games' soundtracks. Which is to say...nothing at all? Weird they didn't go with any of the three main themes at least. But if this thing is dropping in a couple of weeks and they're willing to show it, you'd think they'd nod at what the radio situation is.

I'd have to assume they would've mentioned the radio stations if they were all intact...Ill probably play 3 first and hope some decent radio mods come out for VC and SA not too long after release.

I gotta be honest, I don't think the visuals look good. The super reflective surfaces on lower quality assets and high res environment details with cartoony looking characters just isn't doing it for me.

Since it's on gamepass I'll still probably install it to see how it looks in motion, but I would've probably passed on this otherwise. I'm also hoping the first person mode is somehow brought over from 5 but I feel like it would have been advertised if that was included.

The game pass/ps now standalone exclusivity split just seems super weird to me. Like, why?

Did both Sony and MS approach them for a deal and this was some kind of strange compromise between the 3 of them?

My first impression of the graphics was not a positive one, but the more i think about it, i don't know what I would've liked to see instead. At the end of the day, it's probably more interesting to look at these new graphics. It was not like there was a way this game's graphics would look good & modern, while at the same time retaining the vibe of the original ones.

Yeah, they've done some work to it. I still don't have it in me to play those games again, even with the GTA V control scheme. You lose scale and detail when you go back to the old ones and that's kind of what Rockstar got way into. Old geometries but with lighting and reflective stuff makes me think of Quake 2's RTX stuff.

Guess I'm in something of a minority here based on The Discourse, but I quite like what they've done with the graphics. I look forward to revisiting the only one of them I care about (San Andreas) for no additional cost on Game Pass.
