Is Grand Theft Auto still the "bad boy" of video games?
No. They used to be all about shocking people, and being crazy, but there's not really much left that can shock people, and GTA IV was more about telling a story than being shocking, and what I've seen of GTA V (which is obviously representative of the entire game) looks like it'll be following the same route.
GTA IV got a bunch of shit for being able to kill hookers for points, which totally isn't a thing in that game.

So does Sonic. That doesn't mean people instantly assume Sonic games are going to be good.

That's because Sonic games were never good.

Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they weren't good. There are plenty of people who still love the original few Sonic games on the Genesis. Those are good games. Stop trolling. Your opinion does not represent everyone.

I don't think so. If GTA5 gets a headline, I think the main reason is because of its history not because anything actually in it was particularly horrifying. People know GTA because it was one of the first of its kind but now it's sorta become the standard. But we're not talking history we're talking present day. Is GTA still the bad boy? and I'd say no. Sure, GTA games still make racist satire or social commentary but I wouldn't necessarily call that being a "bad boy". News channels have more vicious commentary and racism than GTA4. Just look at what's been going on recently with Herman Cain. As far as the killing is concerned, well look at any FPS. If we're talking hot coffee-like scandalous then well again the answer no they are not the "bad boy". Saint's Row has taken that role from GTA, just look at the tagline for the third.
Sure, GTA will get those headlines because its recognizable but honestly it's not all that bad compared to other video games presently or even movies. My answer changes, however, if your question is whether or not GTA will always be the poster boy for all that's evil about video games for the mass media. In that case, the answer will always be yes just based on how lazy(or manipulative) the media is currently.
It may not be as purposefully shocking as it once was (except for that Lost and Damned dong) but it's hard to argue with the fact that all that notoriety is part of the reason these games sell so well. It just so happens that they happen to be great games as well.

To people like us, people who follow video games and know what they're about, GTA doesn't have that much bite. To the general public, the name is still attached to killing cops and beating up hookers.
dont forget all the kids who shot up their schools and crap blaming it on GTA... people still relate those to the game even though there are 0 schools in those games >.< Not even school buses.. Or children infact.. WTF rockstar! Put children in the game so we can shoot them! now that would be on the news :D And to me, it would be the good news..
It depends, I voted no because to people like us it has taken a turn from being an over the top game that gets a lot of controversy to taking a much more serious tone. However, to the general public they probably wont be looking at Saints Row the third and seeing it's worse than Grand Theft Auto so to the general publlic - yes.
