Overview
In 1967, six investors pooled money together to buy an ABA basketball franchise for the state of Indiana. The investors agreed to name the team the Indiana Pacers. The name Pacers comes from the Pace car from the Indianapolis 500. The Pacers saw a lot of success in the ABA, winning three ABA championships in 4 years under head coach Bob Leonard. The team won more ABA titles than any other team before the league merged with the NBA after the 1976 season. There first season in the NBA was the 1976-77 season where they finished 5th in the Midwest division. The Pacers have not seen the same amount of success that they had in the ABA, only reaching the NBA Finals once in 36 seasons. Notable players to have played for the Pacers include Hall of Fame players Reggie Miller and Chris Mullin
