From New Jersey to Brooklyn
When Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov became the majority owner of the New Jersey Nets in September 2009, he planned on giving his new team a complete makeover. He provided funding to build the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which was to be the new home of the Nets. In August 2010, the Nets applied for a name change and the following year it was revealed by Jay-Z, the Nets minority owner, that the teams new name would be the Brooklyn Nets. On April 30, 2012 the team officially became the Brooklyn Nets while unveiling the teams new logos and colors.
