inFAMOUS review
inFAMOUS is a new game from Sucker Punch that will take you on an electrifying journey through the eyes of our new favorite Bike Messenger named Cole, living in the wondrous Empire City, when a bomb explodes in the city leaving Cole in a coma state, And tearing the apart. With Plague's, Rape's, Riot's, Gang's, and mindless killings the government is setting a complete lock down on the city and with the military blockading the brides and even the waters, there is no place to escape the hell that
they are all trapped in "Now we're stuck in here with the psycho's." As Cole states in the opening cinematic. And with no government or law to save the day Cole's the only dude who can rise up, kick some ass 'n' SAVE THE DAY...right...
So inFAMOUS is a game where you decide to be the Hero or the Villian, this might seem a little cliche and over played(which it is) the game it self is a lot of fun and it adds re-playability and variety. Since this is an open-world game you get to do all the norms IE run, shoot, fly, climb, and generally kick ass. Now these are all thing you expect in an open-world but in here it's a bit different Sucker Punch has really outdone themselves with this game. Everything here has a real uniqueness to it everything from shooting to gliding doesn't ever feel weird or out of place all the powers in the game really feel right, for instance the "Force Push" power in the game is Cole pretty much like an (electromagnetic pulse)EMP blast blasting things forward may seem borrowed they are eye pleasing and even more so A LOT OF FUN TO USE. But before we go into powers let's talk a bit about the city.
After the explosion the whole city is pretty much Paris Hilton's worst nightmare. The city is Dirty and some parts just completely ghetto. Everyone pretty much lives in the streets at what seems to be a New York Fall like climate, wearing coats and huddled next fire-lit trash cans to stay warm amongst the chaos and destroyed homes and buildings. With all the people suffering local gangs have found the perfect time to instill fear in the people's mind and pretty much control the city. Empire City is pretty much an island split into three sections, each section is quite large both in depth and scale allowing for a lot of exploration and lots of missions within each one. The missions themselves are quite engaging and though missions are similar there is enough variety in the missions that you never get board when playing. In addition there are loads of collectibles you can find in the game with about 350 "blast shards" and 32 "dead drops" which as you find will give you both experience and some of the back-story in the game which will have enough twists and turns that will keep you on your toes the whole ride.
Now...
POWERS!!! I simply love the powers in this game. Doesn't matter if your good or bad the powers rock. They are mostly just twists of things we have all used in games before but these really do make the game quite remarkable. At the start of the game you just start with the ability to shoot stuff and your EMP, blast, push thingy. As you make your way around the city recharging the various power grids and sub stations you'll unlock new powers and you can upgrade them with the experience points you get from the various mission types you play. Using the powers are quite simple and each move is mapped to a specific button on the controller making it easy to set up combos and "stunts" you can do on they fly. Now giving this game does have the moral choice mechanic, your powers and their respective upgrades are only allowed for use based on your characters alignment. In effect if your a hero and make the right choice then your powers will be a little more contained and of course more precise, if your a bad-ass-and-don't-take-no-shit-from-no-one your powers are more destructive with more of a chance of collateral damage and dead civilians, IE the megawatt hammer (rocket launcher) which when good will allow you to designate a target and the rocket will hone-in on the bad guys from any direction, and when bad the rocket will split in to 4 or 5 other rockets and just blow shit up.
Cole's powers also help him navigate the city as well, you can grind on train tracks and power lines and even hover in the air and glide from building to building.
However there are a few bugs in the game, the game can occasionally twitch while at fast speeds, and sometimes certain parts in the city won't render quickly enough so you'll see a blurry building in front of you for a couple seconds then the detail will kick in. One gripe I had was that it was only in 720p and to be honest I can understand that the city is huge (it is really big) but the reason I bought a PS3 was to enjoy the art and the look in 1080p games and I hate it when games don't at least have that to keep me involved with the game. But this game is just too damn fun to care about frame rate or resolution, even in 720p this game is gorgeous, everything from the comic-like cut scenes to the lightning storms and the dark lighting in the game you can really see the greatness of the game and you get a "made with love" type feel once your done playing. inFAMOUS is an exciting action packed game so and I highly recommend this to everyone.
P.S. this is my first review, please give honest scores and feedback. thanks a billion for reading. :)
