Infinity Blade is remarkable in that it’s the first actual game to use Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 running on Apple devices. In September earlier this year, Epic Games released an interactive demo called Epic Citadel that showed off what the engine can do, but obviously the showcase piece was limited in scope and content, which is almost the direct opposite of what iOS gaming circles are expecting of Infinity Blade.
== TEASER ==Infinity Blade puts you in the heavy metal boots of a medieval hero who is mopping up his daddy's unfinished business in a final boss castle. This castle, unfortunately, is filled with an assortment of "epic bosses" that have to be put down before you can reach the big baddy, the God-King. Good thing you'll have weapons at your disposal.
It's been explained to me before that there's more "action" in Infinity Blade than there is RPG. Combat is timing-based and real-time, but requires no more than simple swipes and gestures. You'll be asked to parry, swing, stab, and react with a full range of motion on the touch screen, as if your finger was the sword. With each monster crushed, you'll gain experience from the weapon you've used. Once you level up, you'll be allowed to put skill points into a spec tree.
As has been announced, Infinity Blade won't ship complete: Game Center support as well as an online mode will be added soon after initial release. More content is being planned as well, though the window for this additional stuff is still up in the air.
Infinity Blade is looking pretty impressive, eh? I'll definitely be giving it a go, especially considering this is Chair we're talking about. (And just to be clear, this game will support the iPad, iPod Touch 3rd and 4th gen, as well as the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. Whew.)
