I'd have to say Fallout 3. The game is all about exploration and wandering around the Wasteland. I expected something clever, not a message that says "You can't proceed in this direction"
Invisible Wall
Concept »
An imaginary boundary in the game world that limits player movement to a specific area. They are often criticized as a poor component of level design, when an actual wall or other visible boundary could have been used to delineate a game's playing field.
Worst use of invisible walls
Ya, Fallout 3 had a pretty lame invisible wall. I was expecting to die by radiation, at least that wouldn't have brought me out of the experience.
Try climbing over the rubble. Pisses me off how much shit you have to go through to walk from point A to point B in that game.
Also, there is this giant house in Arlington Cemetery that looks like Arlington House except you can't get into it because of the invisible wall on the rocks. Really Bethesda? I thought you were better than that.
"I'd have to say Fallout 3. The game is all about exploration and wandering around the Wasteland. I expected something clever, not a message that says "You can't proceed in this direction""Yeah. They pulled the same trick with Oblivion, too. Pretty shady.
Ultimate Spider-Man had a similar set-up. The player could be swinging along the streets of New York, heading for a wide expanse of urban jungle, when suddenly the message "Area Inaccessible" pops up on the lower third of the screen.
Back on the topic of Fallout, however, I was very upset when I couldn't climb over some of the most pedestrian piles of rubble. I mean, c'mon.
Worst use of intentional invisible walls? Possibly CoD:WaW (maybe just because that's fresh in my mind)
Worst unintentional invisible walls? Battlefield 2, Dragon Valley. Don't tell me you never hit the invisible wall near the Docks flag trying to make an approach towards the carrier in a jet. I trashed so many F-35s on that wall...
"There's good use of invisible walls?"
Mass Effect.
Made the wall at least make sense.
Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire, you couldn't even fall from mountains or anything else, you followed a straight path through the game. Wind Waker's also were kind of annoying since all you did was turning back and they made me realize i was going the wrong way :P.
