J.D. seems to be DMC5's retconned version of Enzo, who served this role in all previous Devil May Cry lore. This change may be in part because of Enzo now appearing Hideki Kamiya's Bayonetta series. It is mentioned in Nico's Reports that Morrison was the one who chartered Dante's boat ride to Mallet Island. J.D. traveled to Red Grave City and witnessed Urizen's Qliphoth overtake the military and local inhabitants. When Dante gets trapped in the demon world, he leaves the care of the Devil May Cry building to Morrison, rather than Trish or even Lady.
