Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is a video game that consists of 1 release
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is an upcoming PSP titled by Square-Enix and is part of the quickly growing Kingdom Hearts universe. The game takes place roughly ten years prior to the original Kingdom Hearts game, and follows Ven, Aqua and Terra in their search for Master Xehanort.

Long awaited by PSP owners and Kingdom Hearts fans alike, this game is set ten years before the events of Kingdom Hearts and stars Terra, a young Keyblade Master and his friends Aqua and Ven as they fight for freedom. Shown for the first time at the 2007 Tokyo Games Show, this game promises near-PS2 quality graphics, impressive gameplay and to further the already fascinating story from the previous Kingdom Hearts iterations.
Story

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is a prequel to the original Kingdom Hearts game, taking place in between 8-10 years before the first Kingdom Hearts game (which makes that 9-11 years before Kingdom Hearts II). The story's main focus is on the Keyblade masters before Sora, who are seen in the secret endings in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
The Keyblade masters (who, at the time are Keyblade apprentices) in question are Terra, Aqua and Ven who are searching for their missing Keyblade master, Master Xehanort and his apprentice, who's disappearance indicates a great disaster (this Xehanort is not the Xehanort from the later games in the series, although it is likely that they have some sort of relation or connection).
In Kingdom Heats II Final Mix , Ven, Aqua and Terra are seen battling Master Xehanort and his apprentice, and he an extremely powerful mage, as he can be seen freezing Terra's arm with a blizzard attack, and is also able to alter terrain, summoning a cliff at one point. He also can manipulate wind as he made a tornado of the Keyblades shown and is deceptively powerful, as he had the strength to shatter Ven's helmet with his hand. He is also a keyblade master, and as such has the ability to summon his own Keyblade, which he can be seen using in the 'Birth by Sleep' trailer.
Also present during this battle is Xeharnort's apprentice. Little is known about he except that he wears armor that bears a uncanny resemblance to Riku's Heartless uniform in Kingdom Hearts and Chain of Memories. Xeharnort's apprentice is seen fighting Ven and Terra who manage to knock of his helmet (although his face is never shown).Although his motives for doing so are unknown, Master Xehanort and his apprentice are working with Maleficent to find the Princess of Heart, although it is likely because he wants access to Kingdom Hearts (and Maleficent reasons for doing so are documented in the original Kingdom Hearts).
Gameplay

Thanks to the PSP having similar controls and hardware to the Playstation 2, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep will offer gameplay (and graphics) much more similar to its PS2 brethren than previous and other upcoming Kingdom Hearts spin-off titles, such as Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and significantly more console-like experience than the mobile Kingdom Hearts games.
The presentation is the same, with health and magic gauges on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and the familiar command menu on the bottom left of the screen, with the control scheme being mostly the same (X is to perform a command, circle to jump, ect.), making for a familiar experience (as opposed to the radical difference in controls and presentation for games like Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days).
Tetsuya Nomura has stated that there will be three different playable scenarios for each character (one for Ven, one for Terra and one for Aqua), but that there is not one particular most important character or scenario, although he did say that an important story component is Ven's identity.
Two playable characters were shown at Square Enix's DKS3713 event, Terra and Ven. Terra plays very similar to Sora in Kingdom Hearts I&II, hacking and slashing her way through heartless-like enemies. Ven offered a very different style of gameplay, required to find high ground so he could roll up into a ball of yarn to crush enemies down below. Players use the D-pad to cycle through different commands. Players can also use the R button to go into "Focus" mode, the targeting system for the game, and press circle while holding R to unleash a rush attack.
The symbol of the Unbirth's Unbirths
The "Unbirths" are the creatures that Ven, Terra and Aqua battle during the game. Not much is known about them, except that they could potentially have a connection between Heartless and possibly Nobodies, as the Heartless and Nobodies would only appear after the World was rid of the "Unbirths" (which occured sometime between this game and the first Kingdom Hearts game). Only two types of these creatures have been seen thus far, both of which are blue with red eyes, although one is larger than the other. Their purpose or allegience has not yet been revealed although it will likely be explored during the course of the game.
Graphics
The engine of the game looks practically like the PS2 games although some textures aren't as precise, the CGI cutscenes implemented a bit everywhere in the game make up for it. The graphics are great for a handheld with many units on screen, magic effects and beautiful environments.Development
Tetsuya Nomura, the man behind the other Kingdom Hearts is working hard on this title promising a great storyline and gameplay. No release date announcement was made at Tokyo Game Show 2008, although gameplay footage of Aqua was finally released, and it was revealed that she floats in the air and attacks without touching her Keyblade.
