That's the question, I googled how to get to ran 20, so I can get a trophy and I can finish my percentage for all ranks. I can't find much info on google, so i'm asking you. I finished the game, i'm replaying cases right now and I don't want to start an entirely new game to get more points for rank. I am almost at 20, I just need a few more points but I finished all my side mission stuff so I can't get anymore points from that. What am I suppose to do? replaying missions and getting 5 stars isn't helping either. I unlocked half the cars but no rank either. How do I get more points without restarting the game trying to get to rank 20 knowing more of the answers.
Edit: finally got to level 20, by looking for a map online. The extra downloaded level didn't give me any points even though I aced that case.

Can't get to rank 20 in L.A noire, finished all side missions too
Anyone have tips to find landmarks without using a map from a guide?
I think just restarting and playing the first cases would be faster than the trouble you are going through now. Also how did you not hit level 20? I was level 20 long before i finished the game and the side missions and i havnt picked up a single film reel and just one secret car.
Yeah, landmarks give points also. It all depends on how well you did in the cases, I got all landmarks did all cases/side missions and still wasn't lvl20. A guide may be the only way if you didnt get enough during the main game. Landmarks give you 15 exp if i remember correctly.
If you go to the Social Club, and log in there, you can pretty much see on a map what locations and film reels you have found, and which ones you have left.
But then again, you'd have to look at a map, which you said you didn't want to. So... Guess DLC is your only option.

@Enigma777: I don't have a credit card connected to consoles. Unless I can buy some psn card or something, I won`t mind doing that.
They sell PSN cards at stores.
You know what, i`m just going to cheat, im going to see a map of all the stuff. I dont want to spend alot of effort trying to get everything, or drive around all over town and find nothing. I dont have the patients. Ill let you guys know how it goes later on. Once I get the achiement and the rank, thats all I care about.
If I was playing this on 360 I might actually be tempted to try to get the achievement, but I'm on PS3 and I don't give 2 shits about trophies.
I found 19 out of 20 locations just by driving throughout the story. You`ll only get to 20 without film reels and landmarks if you nail every interview, but I doubt you managed that.
Yeah I finished all of the cases and side missions without ever finding a single one. They are in completely random locations, under bridges, on porches, you name it.
@PeasantAbuse: lol, I can't even find a single film reel yet without it. That's sort of like terrible design if they require you to use a map. Where are these things located anyways? Like on the side of a building?I found one on the final case pretty much by accident. That's the only one I've ever found.

Yep. And after that you can start with the badge persuit.
I've noticed in my Social Club that no one else has got to 20 besides me. I got there around the 13th or 14th story mission and seriously don't know how people can not end up getting it before beating the game. I only have 1 film reel too.It depends on how you play. I've seen a number of people say they just do the story missions, ignore the side stuff, and don't do the driving. If you play like that you won't be unlocking many landmarks, you won't be unlocking many vehicles, you won't be solving street crimes and you won't be finding badges/film reels. Of course I've also seen people comment that they reload the instant they get a question wrong so they probably end up with another 10-30 points more than the average person during each case.
I found a grand total of ONE golden film reel playing through all the cases and side cases. They must be well hidden, and I'll be damned if I'm going to bother finding them.

I got them all easily and I got a ton of landmarks and unlocked most of the cars along the way. It's a good way to experience the city they created.
Finally finished this shit. I downloaded a new case for the ps3, I think you get a free level or something but I didn't even get any more points for it.
I then went to google and looked for a map, on the top left of the screen, I thought it was a good place to start. I then got two of them, then it's over level 20 now. I got a silver trophy, so all is well. I was driving a bit by myself and if you didn't do that for most of your gameplay, you won't find these extra points if you let your partner drive for everything.
