    Overview

    Le Chiffre (French for "The Cypher") is the main antagonist of Casino Royale, and originally appeared in the 1953 novel of the same name. He was portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen in the 2006 film adaptation.

    He is a financial banker for the world's leading terrorists, and is forced to recuperate for his losses at a high stakes poker game against MI6 agent James Bond. After winning the poker game, Bond is abducted and tortured by Le Chiffre for the passcode to claim the winnings for himself. Shortly afterwards, Le Chiffre is shot and killed by a mysterious assailant - who is later revealed to be Mr. White.
