    Overview

Limbus Company is a free-to-play, turn-based RPG with a gacha system and dungeon crawling elements.

    Plot

Set some time after the events of Lobotomy Corporation, the Library of Ruina, and the webcomic Leviathan (all done by Project Moon, and set in the same universe). Limbus Company is the story of a person known only as Dante, who lost most of their memories and the ability to speak normally, having their head replaced by a literal clock. The only thing Dante knows is that they have been "hired" as a manager for the Limbus Company by a legendary Fixer named Vergilius, traveling with a dozen other Sinners (loosely based on famous literary works from the real world), guiding them to collect Golden Boughs that represent a new source of untapped power, salvaged from the ruins of Lobotomy Corp.

    Gameplay

Before entering battle, the player must select up to 5-7 (depending on the stage) of 12 Sinners (not including Dante) to use on the field. The player can select from any of the IDs or equip the Sinners' respective EGO before taking them into battle. However, they cannot choose multiple IDs of the same Sinner, nor can they select multiple EGO of the same power level. Once all Sinners have been selected, the battle begins.

    Combat

Combat is done by the player dragging their pointer in a row at the bottom, selecting one of two available attacks at the bottom that correspond to each Sinner in battle. If the fight is against an Abnormality or boss character, the player will have to directly select which attack will be used against which enemy slot. Once the player has made their selections, the combat phase starts, where each character engages in a Clash with the enemy, with their attack power based on multiple factors like status changes, passive abilities, and proper leveling up or Uptie strength. Each Clash is resolved with a series of coin flips, where getting Heads on each coin associated with the attack will add (or subtract, if applicable) a certain number to the attack power, and tails will leave the number as-is. When one side exhausts all their coins, they lose the Clash and the winning side unleashes their attack with all its related effects.

When the combat phase is over, the player must select again as the sinners refill their attack selections, discarding the ones that were previously selected. This cycle continues until one side is completely wiped out.

    Resources

All Sinners have two bars: Health Points (HP) and Sanity Points (SP). HP is mostly self-explanatory: characters can keep fighting unless their HP hits 0, when they are killed and removed from combat. Allies and enemies alike also have Stagger thresholds at certain percentages of HP, where if they are knocked below the threshhold, they are Staggered and cannot act for the next turn. Enemies who are staggered are temporarily weak to all types of damage, not just their normal affinities. SP is used to determine success with coin flips. With a default success rate of 50%, the highest SP that can be reached is 45 in either direction, meaning that a max SP will give the character a 95% chance of flipping heads, and conversely, a 5% chance of flipping heads at -45 SP.

Each attack launched by a Sinner gathers a resource of Sin affinity that corresponds to its color. When enough Sin has been gathered, they can be spent (along with a certain number of SP) for a character to launch a powerful attack using one of their equipped EGO in place of a normal attack slot. When a character reaches -45 SP, they will automatically trigger a Corroded EGO on their next attack. While this EGO is more powerful, the corrupted Sinner will attack anyone, friend or foe, at random with it, and cannot be aimed.

    Dungeon Crawling

Some stages will involve a dungeon-crawling aspect, where the player must select their Sinners' IDs and EGOs carefully, as they will be unable to change them until the dungeon is over or they quit the stage. Unlike standard battle stages, Sinners will not automatically recover HP and SP, unless they hit certain nodes or acquire certain EGO in the dungeon. Some dungeon nodes or boss encounters will force the player to make a decision outside of combat, where the correct answer is not obvious, and they may have to choose a Sinner best equipped to deal with the issue, in order to pass the check and acquire a gift that will give them an edge in the stage.

    Sinners

All of the Sinners have alternate forms that can be acquired through the Extract function when enough roses are collected. However, the main story usually refers to their base forms shown below.
