New Play Control version or sequel, I'll be happy either way...If it's just a place holder filing, then I hope they intend to bring us a sequel some day soon. I think a Wii game could bring about some cool controls for this franchise.
You are one of very few that have such a low opinion. I believe the game has a Metacritic score in the 80 region.
I know I'll be excited when they make a new Luigi's Mansion game. I've been interested to see what kind of motion controls they would do if they remade the game or made a new one for the Wii.
Why are some people so hard on this game? I remember seeing a segment about the Wii on some web site (I don't remember the name) were one of the Gamecube games you could play on the Wii was Luigi's Mansion, but they said in a way that made the game seem not so good.
" You'll be happy? That game was AWFUL "You're awful!
Luigi's Mansion was one of the earliest and best Cube games. Graphically, it was also doing some very interesting and beautiful looking things for its time. I HOPE that it is a sequel. If not, I'll gladly snap this up with new controls.
As far as Gamecube launch games go, Luigi's mansion was pretty good. Not the deepest or the longest game, but I wouldn't mind playing another one.
I think Luigi's Mansion is a pretty great game on it's own terms. People were expecting it to be more of a new Mario game, and it wasn't, but I still had a good time with it and played through it again a second time a couple years back. It was pretty unique and charming. I'd play a sequel. I can totally see them bringing it to the Wii with New Play Control. I'm not sure about a sequel, though. Luigi as a ghostbuster was fun, but I think one game is probably enough.
Dont get your hopes up. Company's often re-trademark property's even if they have no plans to do anything with them. Its keeps others from using the name.

Yea, but it was one of the games initially rumoured to be part of the New Play Control range in Japan.

New Play Control
It's basically a range of Gamecube games that Nintendo have decided to bring over to Wii, They all have the original Gamecube controls removed entirely, and now feature new Wii controls instead. They also include graphical and sound enhancements when necessary.
Luigi's Mansion was the last good original Nintendo game, but knowing their ways, I can't see this being new, just a Play Control version which does nothing for me.
I would be happy with either a sequel or new play control really. Luigi's Mansion is up there with Pikmin on GCN games I think would work better with Wii controls.
@Rallier: The Graphics actually blew me away as well, even looking back on it I think the game looks better than a lot of games that came out last gen. Everything was detailed so well.
