Nothing looks tougher than a bald man with sunglasses...
In Mafia II's first multi-platform arcade-style DLC you play as Jimmy. Jimmy was and is "the guy the other guys call when they need to finish a job", AKA a hitman. Anyway, Jimmy has ended up in jail after someone screwed him over and now he wants revenge...
To clear things up, this DLC is separate from the main campaign. Money, clothing, and cars are not shared between the campaign and DLC. The city is exactly the same, but you won't be seeing any of the characters from the main game. This is where we get to the problems...
What made Mafia II such a good game was it's story, characters, and gameplay. What makes this DLC not so good is it's lack of story and characters. Story is told through ridiculously bland text shown before you begin your mission, informing you that you are going to kill someone. Told this way, the story of Jimmy's Vendetta is completely uninteresting and ignorable. It would have helped, possibly, if new supporting characters were added or if a cutscene appeared at least once; but alas, there are NONE.
So there's no good story and no good characters. Is the gameplay good at least? Yes and no. The mechanics are solid just as the main campaign is, but hardly any effort is put into the level design to have fun with the great mechanics. Every single mission involves either stealing a car or killing someone. Every mission is outdoors, which makes it feel as if you could just shoot a civilian on the street and have the same fun shooting the cops that come after you. All this DLC offers is more scenarios in which to shoot people and leaderboards to rank your abilities to shoot people. I regret wasting my money on what I thought would be a great compliment to the campaign. I was very wrong.
