A great intro to a deep card game.

This game should appeal to new comers to the magic universe and those who have not played in awhile. However, will leave any active magic players wanting more.

First if you've played magic in the past this is a great way to get in and learn some of the new rules that have been added recently (combat damage has chagned a lot!). Of course they don't actually tell you that these rules are so you are forced to read up on it on the internet.

Second if you've never played magic this is a great place to learn the basics of gameplay, concept of each of the five colors, and some useful deck concepts and card synergies.

One of my main complaints about this game is the lack of customization allowed when it comes to decks. Basically you unlock a core set of ~7 decks which each have 12 cards you can add to them. Of course you can only ADD cards to decks you can't create a deck from scratch or remove cards that start in a deck. In addition this game has quite a few bugs. Some which can prevent rounds from progressing, some which cause drops on live network games.

This game could have easily been rated higher if you had the ability to customize your deck, or create a new deck from cards you've unlocked through gameplay. Overall though this game has rekindled my love of the original card game, and was worth the purchase price.

It's going to provide something radically different for different people, and your own enjoyment of it will depend heavily on your history with the Magic card game itself. In short, Duels of the Planeswalkers is a great introduction for newcomers, but might not offer the level of depth and customization that Magic veterans ultimately seek. For those not in the know, Magic the Gathering is a ridiculously complex (but...

Just the right amount of Magic? 0

I played Magic a good bit when I was in college ten years ago.  I was at the level that I participated in local tournaments and maybe bought multiple boxes of a set so I could get 4 Rares to put in a deck.  I stopped playing as my life got more full, and now I play once in a blue moon.  I have to admit the thought of trying to get back into it is a daunting one because I don't want to spend the time accumulating all of the cards needed to play at the level I want to.So when I heard about Magic: ...
