While going through the videos for Mass Effect 2 I noticed something that I just ignored on my previous view. From what I saw I came up with a theory about how Mass Effect 2 will start, with the destruction of the Normandy.  I think that the destruction of the Normandy can be a really good way for them to start off the game as it will set the tune for the a much more darker themed game as Bioware indicated before. It can certainly explain why the characters in the game think Shepard is dead and it can most certainly explain why Shepard looks so fucking pissed off. I could very well be wrong  and the game could have a totally different opening but I still think that the Normandy will get destroyed at some point of the game. 
 
The second reason for my thinking is that the first game started off with the destruction of the Eden Prime colony so why not follow in the footsteps of the first game only this time make it more personal.

This game will be awesome. Because it will finally break down the cliche in games where everyone lives happily ever after. I thought MGS4 was going to break that, and it ALMOST did, but...

I could be wrong, but I could've sworn that they confirmed the destruction of the Normandy already.  I think they also mentioned that it happens a little later in the game... though I'm not sure.  I might be getting my games confused.

This seems all too plausible....a little TOO plausible. Do you work at Bioware? lol

i too have been thinking this. also i think Shepard will get injured some how and that will be their explanation to why he doesn't have all of his abilities from the first game

The planet they're orbiting, Isn't that the same planet that the Normandy flew by at the end of Mass effect. So could this literally pick up right where it left off.

I have to say, I am very interested in seeing how this scene plays out. If it is at the beginning of the game, could your choices in the first massively effect how it plays out (pun very much intended)?

It seems like a very plausible start to ME2.

I  hope Joker doesn't die... At least not at the outset.
