I know there is another topic however the title is not informative and I think whoever gains more attention wins.

So someone has decided to make a Chipin account for "Retake Mass Effect 3 Ending".

Chipin is just like Kickstarter. You have an Idea people choose an amount and drop a little bit of cash.

    Currently it sits over $11.000.

Update: 4hrs on it is now sitting at $27,530

This is one is confusing on what exactly the end result is. The account explanation go as.

    About
The Retake Mass Effect - Child's Play donation drive is a community driven effort to bring positive attention to our petition for an alternate ending to the fantastic Mass Effect series. The Child's Play charity was chosen as a charity started by gamers to provide video games for the patients at Children's Hospitals all over the world.

We would like to dispel the perception that we are angry or entitled. We simply wish to express our hope that there could be a different direction for a series we have all grown to love.

Here is what the ME3 Retake pledges.

    The Petition
A Petition for Alternate Endings to the Mass Effect Trilogy

We, the undersigned, respectfully request the consideration of the following petition.

    Whereas:

    * Mass Effect is an interactive video game providing a detailed framework within which the player may create a unique story

    * A major concept of the Mass Effect games is that your choices significantly affect the outcome of the story

    * Another major concept of the Mass Effect games is success in the face of seemingly impossible odds

    We believe:

    * That it is the right of the writers and developers of the Mass Effect series to end that series however they see fit

However, we also believe that the currently available endings to the series:

    * Do not provide the wide range of possible outcomes that we have come to expect from a Mass Effect game

    * Do not provide a sense of succeeding against impossible odds

    * Do not provide a sense of closure with regard to the universe and characters we have become attached to

    * Do not provide an explanation of events up to the ending which maintains consistency with the overall story

We therefore respectfully request additional endings be added to the game which provide:

    * A more complete explanation of the story events

    * An explaination of the outcome of the decisions made, especially with regard to the planets, races, and companions detailed throughout the series

    * A heroic ending which provides a better sense of accomplishment

To this end, we donate to the "Retake Mass Effect 3" Child's Play Charity drive in lieu of our signature to this petition, in order to establish our sincerity, our love for these games, and for the Mass Effect universe.

We thank you for your consideration.

This is a very confusing set up. Its a person that has made this account and presumably has hooked it up to their bank account. They say its for Child play however it could never make it.

Chip-in seems like a relatively safe platform to donate through. When the Tested guys did Oktoberkast, they set it up so the money would go directly to Child's Play when people donated through the widget. But people should probably check in with Child's Play themselves before donating.

Then again, this whole idea seems really stupid. Bioware isn't going to change the ending and as Jeff stated on Twitter, all this is going to do is bring more exposure to their game. If you want to donate to Child's Play, do it because you like what the charity does and not because of the off chance that this is somehow going to get Bioware to change the game.

I donated a few bucks. I've been lurking the forum and people are claiming to be getting receipts from Child's Play. Heck, even I got a receipt telling me it's legit. It may be a weird cause, but its people raging by giving money to charity and not raging by spamming message boards. Their negativity made something positive, can't really complain about that. 11,000 dollars (so far) are going to kids who need help.

What does it say about society that the ending to a video game calls more people to action than an actual tragedy.

How about you donate to Child's Play under the guise of actually caring about the kids? I am glad they will get more money, all those children deserve it, but it's fucking stupid to donate because you may get a retake of an ending that was fine. It's like donating a dollar to charity at McDonalds only so you can get their free fry coupons.

    Can't tell if that's sarcasm.

Still its pretty funny to me. Kind of sad though. Can't people donate to the charity without this stupid ass cause?

How about a better one like: "donate your money that would buy stupid on disk DLC to child's play to try getting rid of on disk DLC!"

Giving money to needy children with a note attached saying "I think the ending of Mass Effect 3 sucked" is pretty ridiculous, and weirdly crass in some ways, but at least needy children got money.

My god. I applaud all of the money that is being given to charity and at time am disgusted by the amount complaining being done about this game's ending. I guess if anything I'm glad this apparent ending was so bad that it got people to give to a worthwhile cause.

But still, stop with all the bitching people.

@smitty86: While I understand the bitching fatigue, I'm getting in the camp too a little bit, I think this outweighs it. I hope more people who are disappointed are pointed to this charitable website instead of the bioware forums because in the end raising money for sick kids is cool. Like Gary Whitta said during the Tested 24 hours charity podcast "It's a fuckfest".

It's come to the point on the internet now that I could cure cancer and people would find a way to bitch about it. "You're destroying jobs!" or something. God fucking damn.

If they "change it" they'll probably just go with the indoctrination theory, since there's so much "evidence" for it as it is. Which just makes the endings there part of shepards inner battle against said indoctrination. Which actually makes them cool.

People are donating for a good cause and to show their resolve in where they stand on an issue.

Yes, an alternative ending is not the best reason, but to belittle people for donating money to a cause just seems... idk, I guess douchey is the word.

I'm sure the kids the money is going to help out aren't complaining.

People with extreme issues on both sides are taking it too far - Bioware gave fans a truly abysmal ending, but they don't owe us anything and really the damage is done. The fight is pointless and the methods of yelling at a huge game company to give them an ending they are 'owed' is dumb. But it's from a very real place, a strong human connection to a story, so it's not disgusting or a sign that games are the worst, it's actually positive in a way: A Group of fans are rallying together for something, and raising money for charity along the way. Now, the specific aim is futile and won't really help anyone, but raising money for Charity, no matter the reason, should not be called 'disgusting.' It's easily the best thing they could do.

Also, it's a great Metaphor for Mass Effect 3, rallying together to raise a non-related number to attempt to win a fight that will turn out to be pointless.

Money is being donated to make some kids happy. That's a pretty cool thing, whatever the cause.

EDIT: Went and donated $20 directly to Child's Play. Been meaning to for awhile. I appreciate what the BSN guys are doing, but I don't know if I can throw in with a cause that I believe is clearly futile.

This is tearing me apart - one side of me is happy that people are rallying together and donating money to charity, but the other side of me is reaching out for the gun because the reason behind the donation is so fucking stupid I can't even comprehend it.

I guess I got +10 in faith in humanity and at the same time got -10 points in faith in humanity... Oh well, nothings changed then I guess.

@Legendary: I've had more time to research and think about this whole thing, and it is looking more and more like they're cynically using the charity to deflect any criticism and promote their movement. It is quite sneaky and exploiting. It's nice that money is going to charity and all, but eeeuuugghh.

Holy S#it! Are people here serious? It doesn't matter that people give to charity because of something like that. The way I see it, this guy behind it has two reasons for it:

1: To show people that people disappointed with the ending isn't just whiny kids with entitlement issues

and 2: In the hope that BioWare will notice and perhaps do something.

And do anybody here seriously think that the people donating really does it just in the hope of BioWare creating a new ending.

It's definately a reason, but they give to charity because it's for a good cause. And if BioWare listens, then hooray you succeeded, if not, well the kids will still get their toys either way. Just read what people on this thread, who has donated, says.

Encephalon here above gave 10$ and does not actually believe BioWare is going do anything.

    @Ace829:

I agree. It just seems fucked up.

    It's like this to me:

    Donating to charity = Great

Donating to charity in order to change the ending of a game = Kind of dumb.

But whatever, who am I to tell people what they should do with the money. It's fantastic that Child's Play is getting a shit ton of money, but Bioware\EA most likely won't do anything about the ending.

I think its less about actually changing the ending and more about showing that people with money are getting sick of this shit, Bioware (Dragon Age 2 was a flawed game with an atrocious ending). And doing so in a way that is beneficial to someone.

Can you imagine if all internet bitch threads resulted in thousands of dollars donated to a charity?
