I think I speak for all American gamers and Japanese gamers when I say that the first few seasons of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for SNES was the highest point of beat 'em up for a very long time. While the Genesis version was a shitty fighting game, the SNES got a full blown adventure game that had not one but THREE ways to play.
Human Mode - Kick ass without the suit...but when shit got real you tore bitches up by showing your Morpher...which leads toooooooo ->
Ranger Mode - Double Jump, Wall Run, Weapons, and kick-assery that no one has witnessed in eons. You tore up so many Evil Putties like they owed you money. But that's not all, later on in the level you got to kick giant ass in your Zords.
Zord Mode - It's fucking awesome.
The only downside was the lack of Green Ranger and Ninja Ranger Suits. I guess you can't have one without the other due to how the seasons worked out but it was still a shame. Then again, the Green Ranger was kinda a pussy for turning into the White Ranger, and everyone knows the White Ranger was the biggest pussy out of all of them in the later seasons.
But yes, I am feeling nostalgic...and yes I have watched almost the entirety of the first few seasons of this show on the YouTube today. Anyone else remember this game and how awesome it was?
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Game » consists of 4 releases. Released September 1994
A Super Nintendo side-scrolling brawler in which one of five teenagers must fight the forces of Rita Repulsa by morphing into a Power Ranger. The game was developed by Natsume and published by Bandai.
No Debate, This Is The Greatest Beat 'em Up. Period.
I'm inclined to agree with you, but I don't know. I liked Maximum Carnage quite a bit. It's definitely between those two for me.
i just thought it was a retarded live action rip off of voltron.
also the greatest Brawler ever was Shadow of Mystara, the Dugeons and Dragons arcade game.
I found double dragon to be better as a game. Then again I never played the power rangers beat em up til I was older (i didn't have a SNES as a kid).
As for the green ranger- the green ranger was always the coolest but they ran out of footage from the original show they were taking it from so sadly it was short lived in comparison. He always had the best stories imo, though.
I didn't watch much after the first movie so I don't remember much about the white ranger so no comment there.
Crap. Not the GBA. I think. Wait, maybe no. Maybe I played some Power Rangers beat-em-up on the GB Color. I don't fucking know.
Guess who has two thumbs and still owns this game, along with the original packaging? THIS GUY.
I still have the passcodes to every level memorized including the secret passcode where a second player can plug in a controller and battle each other in Zord mode.
For a minute I thought I owned this, before I realized that it was a different game than Mighty Morphing Power Rangers: The Movie: The Game. look really really similar in screenshots though I don't recall any Zord action in that game. strange.
I thought this was about that PS1 Power Rangers game.
That has the worst game I've ever played.
THE WORST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED
I am sorry you were unable to visit an arcade with Aliens vs. Predators or Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Or weren't smart enough to play Streets of Rage 2 or Batman Returns for the SNES. My condolences good sir.
I was 11 when Power Rangers were huge and I thought it was retarded but then again I grew up on shows like MST3K, Pete and Pete, Eerie Indiana, The Tick, Ren and Stimpy, and Batman the Animated Series so my taste were kind of skewed towards things that were good.
Holy shit, they made a mighty morphin' power rangers video game?! I would have shat my pants in excitement if I knew about this when I was a little kid.
