Mine Cart

Object » linked to 110 games

Essentially a transport trolley locked on a rail. Initially used to bring coal and other mined materials from inside mines to the surface; now it serves multiple uses in video games.

One of the most well known videogame cliches for a good reason.
It doesn't get any better than this
From the Atari to the Xbox 360 and all that's in between, videogames have continued the tradition of including an awesome as shit mine cart level to increase the radness quotient of a game 10 fold. This is accomplished through nostalgia, action, speeding up game pacing, or simply as an old stand by when developers are out of ideas.
You love them, I love them and on this page we celebrate them.

Mine Cart levels exist in all videogame genres, in many different styles.
Somtimes you control the cart (Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Rpg), other times you only control the characters (Resident Evil 4, Gears of War).
There are even times where you control neither (Final Fantasy VI).

No matter how the player controls these sequences they are always welcome in games and hopefully will remain that way for years to come as the tradition of the mine cart level rattles on down the rickety tracks of time.
