Minecraft

Minecraft is a game that's taking all the others in the gaming industry out of par, and the community, well, it's mostly good. But we'll get to that small percentage of the 15,902,086 (and counting!) players later.

I bought Minecraft about 2 years ago and i'm still playing. Why? Well, it's not only a game where you have to survive out in the wild against large armies of monsters, but it's also an outlet for creativity (like LEGOs). It takes that to the next level with the old-school graphics style that doesn't distract you from the actual game, which is one thing I find wrong with games today. You buy a game and get so worked up by how awesome the graphics are that you don't even care what you're doing. "Oops sorry I friendly fired I was just mesmerized by the graphics." And that was my impression of what happens when you're playing the latest Call of Duty for the first time. On Multiplayer.

But back to Minecraft, there's multiple ways you can play the game, known as gamemodes.

• Survival Single-player (SSP) is a gamemode for those who like to have a bit of a challenge by themselves.
• Creative Mode is a gamemode for just making what you want. Wanna make a huge mansion? Sure! Wanna make that pirate ship off the LEGO Movie? Sure! Wanna make KE$HA's tits? Umm... sure?
• SMP, which is Multiplayer, is the vanilla variant of Multiplayer.
• Factions is a Multiplayer gamemode similar to SMP, except for the fact that Player vs Player, Raiding, and sometimes even Griefing are allowed.
• Minigames are little maps people make in Minecraft that you either play yourself or with your friends. Like Hunger Games! yay!!!!! (I always get killed)
• Adventure/Survival maps are like Minigames, but they are larger and more in-depth. Unlike Minigames which require nothing but a Bukkit plugin, a few command blocks, and some WorldEdit, these maps require countless hours of redstone, and of course, WorldEdit. Building these are not for the faint of heart (or those who can't go 5 minutes without yawning). Playing these, however, is much easier.

One thing about Minecraft Multiplayer is the reason Minecraft only has 3 stars - Griefers and Trolls. Griefers are players who only care about destroying your priceless recreation of the Enterprise for their own sick amusement. Trolls, however, are on the other side of causing misery. They use everything they can get in their character's blocky hands to make you lose your mind.

In total, I give Minecraft a 4 out of 5 stars, 5 stars for being flipping epic, -1 star for the bad members of the community.
