I was vary much looking forward to this back before MK9 came out, but now I don't even know if I'm going to get it. MK9 has really filled the Mortal kombat shaped hole in my heart and when I look what the game has to offer and I think, meh.

Am I alone, or are there people excited for this game?

I can't help but assume a lot of people are probably feeling the same as you.
As much nostalgia as I have, the new one is so good.

They probably should've rolled this out pre-MK9.

I'll buy it, play it and love it all over again... until I play online, where the massive confidence that has grown from going through the arcade ladder becomes miniscule, even microscopic in size.

I think I share the common opinion of this thread that MK9 already took the core concepts from those games and brought them up-to-date. I don't see a reason to pay $15 for nostalgia which will wear off the first few times that I play the game.

There is a PC Version confirmed? If so yes, even though I'll get my ass severely handed to me, can't to play some UMK3 online and try MK2 in a proper fashion for the first time.

MK3 is the best. I will be plucking down 15 bucks just for that (even tho I already have it on 360 but I want it on PS3 as well).

I'll probably pop into MK1 just for fun but that will probably get the least amount of play out of the 3.

As much as I think MK9 was the best MK since MK3, I still sorta just stopped playing it after a few weeks.  I guess I'm just a traditionalist.  So to answer the Q, I'm still very excited for this one - I just hope enough people get it for some good online play (assuming the netcode works well enough).

might get it even tho i have umk3 on the xbox and mk2 on the ps3.

They should either give you a discount if you already got umk3 before they removed it or maybe even make them both compatible online ?

Maybe they are but i doubt it.

I won't play it obsessively, but this still has a home on my console.

Just picked it up. All it is ladder and online, with some neat display touches. The bosses are still infuriatingly hard.

Online is horrible (PSN version)... MK1 is the only tolerable game to play online. MK2 and UMK3 feel like they're running at half their normal speed. Other than that, the games feel fine offline though. I won't be surprised if this gets canned on tomorrow's Thursday Night Throwdown. (Maybe at least play MK1 on either PSN or XBLA)

This is horribly laggy and buggy on both systems, I've had it freeze several times on both no matter which game I was playing. MK1 is the only one that's even remotely playable online.

    Criticisms include:

    • Frequent crashes.
    • A full second of input delay after unpausing.
    • Menus are sometimes bugged, I tried to play a ranked MK1 game and it tossed me into MK2.
    • Sound effects get cut off early (Scorpion's harpoon in UMK3) or sound different than the actual arcade versions. Minor nitpick, but they did say it would be arcade perfect.
    • Music in UMK3 is very quiet.
    • No way to remove the borders or stretch the screen. Things no sane person would do, but still.
    • Kombat kodes in UMK3 don't work online, nor does the button combination to use Human Smoke.
    • Trophies seem to be fine, but I beat MK1 on 360 and the achievement didn't unlock.
    • Music in the 3rd endurance match in MK1 stops after a few seconds.
    • Some of the inputs in the move lists are flat out wrong.

@Buttenator: Wow. I was quite annoyed that it wasn't out in EU PSN update, but now I'm quite happy that it wasn't. Bloody hell.

Don't be fooled, it's a broken and sloppy mess. Even the original UMK3 360 port is more playable and less buggy game than this. As someone who isn't at all interested in the recent MK games, I was ready to get some nostalgia but even at 800 points it's just not worth it. Very sad. Hey, should have seen this coming

Since I have someone to play with offline, I dont play online, so for me, it's been a blast.

In my hours of play last night... Mk1 is bad, like very bad.

This is an embarrassment. After having crafted a labor of love in MK9, they whip this out as a cheap cash grab.

It's buggy, mostly unplayable. The music is different in spots, totally nonexistent in others. Trash.

If you're reading this thread and are still at all curious, don't waste your money.

I have this on the 360 and my biggest complaint so far is that all the graphics look faded. Seems like the brightness/gamma is set too high and there is no options that I could find in the menu to turn them down.  I have the original Ultimate MK3 on xbox live and MK2 on ps3 and they both look normal.
Also, it is nice that they included the move list for all the characters (including fatalites etc) but why can you only view them during the fight and not in between rounds (they option is greyed out)? You have to wait for the announcer to finish saying "Fight", and then as soon as the round is over it's greyed out again.  Mostly a minor complaint but it is a bit frustrating.
Sadly while I feel the game is playable (at least single player, I have no intention of playing online) I would rather play these games in MAME. I Hope an update can address the problems everyone is having, but I'm not really counting on it.

Wow. Just...wow. It amazes me that the makers of MAME & GGPO can run these old games as well as the online play perfectly, yet, these actual developers themselves can't even emulate those games & the online play correctly on two home gaming consoles with tons of power under the hood.

Maybe the mentality during Other Ocean's development on this is less make it arcade accurate as possible to benefit in the long run but more try to get it somewhat playable. Unfortunate.

If you disable blood, when you play UMK3, Scorpion will say his whole "Get Over here.." when he throws his spear. it was a bug int he original arcade game that caused the sounds to cancel out when Scorpion threw his spear and the blood dropping sounds.

Stupid yeah, but it's arcade accurate >.>
