Originally envisioned as a Jaws game, when Parker Bros lost the license the concept was sold to U.S. Games, who came up with a marketing scheme. Ads were placed for a contest to name the game, and cartridges were actually stocked in stores titled only "Name-This-Game" with name submission forms enclosed. The winner was to be decided after April 30, 1983, but U.S. Games closed its doors in March.
Carrere Video Distribution later released the game in Europe with the title "Octopus".
