Naughty Bear

Introduction

For those of you who do not know what naughty bear is, its a Action/Hack 'n' Slash game that sees you of taking the role of the titular protagonist "Naughty Bear" and your purpose in life is to make the other teddy bears of Perfection Island a living hell and you hate them so much you just have to make then turn insane by constantly scaring them or by killing them with different weapons (each come in 2 main types melee and range but more on them later) and then environment (cake mixing machines, power stokes & record players ). I hear you ask but why is naughty bear doing that well he doing this because he wasn't invited to the birthday party of a bear called "Daddles" (he made a present for Daddles but they laughed at him and so he decided to take revenge),now you now why he is doing this.

Naughty Bear's Gameplay

I find the game gameplay really fun and satisfying because of the different ways you can torture the other bears on the island.  in the games combat you can use the melee weapons like sharp knives and swords to the realy obscure blunt weapons like the "Leg Of Pork" & "The Twig". the best part of the combat is then the ultra finishing moves  (these vary depending on which weapon you are holding,for example: with a baseball bat you will beat a bear to death around then head before flattering it, as with a small axe you will axe away at a bears head), the environmental kills are fun but only the kills involving the big object are any fun to watch such as the cake mixing machine (big environmental kills are also quote funny the first few times). well that how you kill the other bear quickly but the best way is to mess with the head by making them commit bearicide (teddy bear suicide) because you pushed them over the edge by scaring them so much that they cant take any more of your psychological torture.

Naughty Points

No matter how you tourtue the other bears you will earn naugthy points and you will increase your multiplier and these point are a testament to how naughty you have been  (or rather how varied and skill full & creative you are). The best thing  I found about naughty point is that the top players best score is away on screen which give you intensive to keep a high multiplier and to try out new things inorder try new method of naughtiness in order to beat that players score. Naughty point are also use to unlock different trophies,which are used to unlock new episodes and challengers. I think the concept of naughty point is a good idea but they could be used for some thing more then just bragging rights.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer in naughty bear is the standard  affair: 3 multiplayer staples of king of the kill, search and destroy, capture the flag which are re branded to fit the world of naughty bear (King of the hill becomes "The Golden Cup Cake", Search and Destroy becomes Assault The Unibear Statue and Capture The Flag become "Jelly Wars"). these mode re-branding are good fun apart from jelly wars which still has me scratching my head on what it is I'm suppose to be doing. there is also a original mode titled "The Golden Ooze" which involves players tying to find the titular weapon which has unlimited ammo and once a player is in position of that weapon the only way other player can get it is by killing the current holder of the ooze, to win at this mode you must be the first player to have killed 5 times while in position of the golden ooze. this mode is fun but its the holder of the ooze has an unfair advantage with unlimited ammo. there are some major issues with the multiplayer and they are connection issues i found that frequently that I as well as other payer are being disconnected for no apparent reason even though our internet connections are good enough to play online.

Naughty Bears Presentation

The games presentation is excellent frond the great quality of the voice talent used for the children's TV show narrator to even the SFX and the menu art, the presentation is just good and i really felt the evil children's TV show vibe that this game has. the graphics may not be cutting edge but the fit this games aesthetic  perfectly but some of the games textures could use work like the texture used for all the bear, they look great from afar but close up they just look awful.

Naughty Bears Flaws

Sadly this game has flaws such as: the HUD Vanishing ) yes it can happen) , Clipping issues (finishing moves can look out of place if done in the wrong place), area transition slowdown (the game lags when moving from one area of a level to another), game crashes & stationary bears(bears that will just stand there and not move not even if you scare and/or hit them)

My Final Verdict

My verdict on Naughty Bear is that is a fun game and has grate potential but just feel that this is a downloadable title that is trying to be a something its not (a retail worthy game), it could of done with a few more months in development to be truly ready because of all its flaws it not worth the full retail price of £37.99/$60 (how ever if it was a XBLA/PSN title it defiantly worth at least the higher end asking pros of 1200MSP). if you can look past this game flaws there is a really fun and quirky game to be played but the price and under developed.
