Warriors Of Rock: A Fitting End

Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock is the latest (and some say last) game in the guitar hero franchise, i quiescently a music/rhythm game where you have to match different coloured noted to the buttons on a guitar, pads if on the drums and pitch when on vocals (to be fair how you can not know this is beyond me as where have you been for the past 6 years)(?_?). Now back on topic... this is the best guitar hero game ever made... fact! (well my opinion really).

    The are new features include:

Song Length Bar: the song length bar is a new part of the games HUD  it fills up while you are playing though a song the bar is split into 2 parts, it tells you 1 of 2 things,  when you half way and when you are nearing the end of a song (i like this feature because as i said earlier  it helps to strategic the deployment of star power).

Quickplay+: This is a new feature  (well its more of an update) is an improved & reworked version of the classic Quickplay mode, it allows players to quickly choose songs from Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, as well as any DLC & imports that they have acquired. It will also incorporate the challenge feature from Guitar Hero 5's career mode, every song  (and any song you own through ether imports or DLC) and song challenges not found in quest mode. Each challenge features three possible completion levels - Gold, Platinum, and Diamond - Diamond being the hardest  (and most of the time requires you to play on expert). The types of challenge differ per song and instrument. I think that its cool to include this for ever song that you own but i have noticed that the song specific challenge are lock to the song from the games disc this is such a shame but i do know what a mammoth task this would be for Activision is they where to do this for all 643  (and counting)songs as DLC or imports in the guitar hero back catalogue, so you can see from their point of view why they would not bother with song specific challenges.

Warriors powers: Warriors powers are powers/perks  (there are 8 in total, one for each rocker/warrior of rock) that change the gameplay slightly from changing to top end of the score multiplier from X4 to X6 or starpower generation to note-streak guards (there is even a power that will save you if you should fail out its called resurrection). To be frank i thought the powers are good but because i can play about 90% of the songs in the game without failing i really did find a use for them apart from resurrection (which i used only twice while playing though the games quest mode), apart from that all i can say on the warrior power is that is you a good and experienced guitar hero play the may feel gimmicky but for the novice guitar hero will find them a god send as they will help you get through the though difficult sections from songs as well as the really challenging latter of the setlist.

Colour Swap: Colour Swap is a new optional extra  that will randomly changes the colours of the notes such as a green gem may turn up as orange, red or any other colour (the positions of the notes do not change just the colours), it is supposed to make the game ever harder (just like hyperspeed) but just like hyperspeed it depends on how good you are at guitar hero. I like this extra and i think is make the note carts look pretty, the only time it has thrown me off is when I'm playing a song with long single note sustains an example of this is "Bohemian Rhapsody" on Bass.

FaceBook/Twitter Intergration: this is a feature that is becomeing common in game to day and guitar hero: warriors of rock joins the fold buy letting you post you scores and in game achevements ether via tweets for example  "insert twitter name here "rocked “Bohemian Rhapsody” on Expert Guitar in Quickplay Score: 283,638  #GHWOR (on Twitter) or wall posts,( on FaceBook, an example of a GH wall post is below )

Quest mode is a new version of career mode: where you must transform 8 of the guitar hero rocks in to there warrior alter-egos buy collecting enough stars  (each warrior of rock have there own unique power which is unique to them such as Johnny Napalm has the Speed Freak power, this allow to keep they score multiplier at X2). It's hard to believe but the quest mode has a  story where the warriors of rock must be gather where they must them find the Legendary Guitar That belongs to the Demi-God Of Rock (the games narrator who is voiced by Kiss bassist and front man: Gene Simmons) in-order to defeat the Best and resurrect the Demi-God (i don't really care for the story but it a good story just not fantastic one). the quest is split in to 11 section (8: one for each warrior, 1 for 2112, 1 for the battle against the beast and a secrete final section for the demi-god which contains the game must brutal and hardest songs, those songs on expert will literary shred your finger trust me it happened to me).

This  isa music/rhythm game so of coures i have to talk about the game's huge setlist, it's the biggest one there has ever been in a guitar hero game on disc you will get 93 song from different genres of Rock & Metal you will not find no pop music hear the closets you Will get to pop rock is the 2 Emo songs from My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". the songs in the setlist have been chosen to fit the hardcore plays taste by giving them fast past songs with insane guitar solos. i think the the setlist does what it is meant to...for about 55% of the time as most of the songs i were are breeze to pass on expert with no problem but then i came cross the death/speed etal song which totally killed my fingers but i only failed out twice so i did not do to bad. the only other things that i think i can complain about is the grouping of the setlist in Quest Mode as the way some of them are suppose b to be grouped into genres inorder to fit the persona of the rocker they represent is a bit off , for example Pandora is the game Gothic rocker and in her group  you would think she has Gothic rock and metal songs ...but no she has modern rock, alternative rock, emo & heavy metal (does that make any sense to you, well to me i does not), another incident with this is with the alternative/emo rocker Judy Nails in her set list grouping she is suppose to have alternative rock & Emo but wait she has songs from the classic rock & hard rock genres... yes she has alternative but what is she doing having the sons "how you remind me" & " Bohemian rhapsody" in her setlist hmm ? Now back on a lighter note one last thing about the setlist i like is the 23 minutes epic Rush song "2112" (it is broken into 7 parts with narration the the band members of Rush who explain the story of 2112), i felt that it's perfect and beacuse it's split up it gives you a few seconds to rest during the narration sections, 2112 was chosen for the game because it fits the part of the story where the 1st 4 warriors of rock find the demi-god's guitar,i like the way it just slots into the games story nicely.

the prsentation is the best of any music reythem game every as the heavily influence brutal legend vibe fits nicely to this type of game the character models a look more realistic then ever and are well detailed (they ther are a few dynamic lighting and shadow issues, where the shadows on the character models jump around and don't flow smoothly but it hard to notice amount of the speeding notes that go down the highway), the mo-cap is the best yet, there are some song that have really good mo-cap as it fits the song quite well, the best mo-cap for a song goes to "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, some say they find it cheesy but i on the other hand found if hilarious & a fitting tribute to the famous music video i think they could of worked more of the camera angles for the operatic section but part from that cant complain. there and also great venues that are moddeled after the 8 warriors of rock and they give great visuals when the rocks transform in to their warriors alter egos.

there are some of the mixes for some of the songs sound totally different from the original mix an example of this is the Fall Out Boy song "dance, dance", this song is my all time favorite song , so to see that they change the mix of the song to make it sound bands friendly, this really hacks me off  (in the original mix the drums and really domiante but in the GH mix the drum sound very weak) it seems that the do this alot with pop punk and Emo sosng, I know why they do it but why cant they just leave  them be? There are also some songs like "Paranoid (live)" Ozzy Osbourne's vocals (in paranoid live version) are way off the original song (yes  know its a live recording but i have heard ozzy sing and he can match the same key as the original)& "Bad Brains " (the songs just is a terrible songs)they are just terrible sounding songs. the only other think i hated is that the online did not work on the UK release date of "28th September the online was broken (until the 28th when it way released in th US) even when it was working absolutely no one was online this is not help full when trying to get the competitive achievements), these are the only things that i can think i need to complain about.

To finish my review Will list the good and bad points:

    The Good Points:

    • Quest Mode: as its truly  epic and  a welcome change to the stardard guitar hero carrer mode.
    • Warrior
    • The Massive 93 song setlsit, i like around 97% of the songs that are in the setlist and they come from diffrent sugrenres of roc and metal so it makes me happy (^_^).
    • The Presentation, theyavery detailed and very well put together.
    • The New Features, i like hhe new features: the facebook and twiter ingtergration give new bragging terotry were as the a colour swap makes the note charts look pritty and im used to playing the game so it make it hard to put me off hasnto though me off.
    • The Insane Diffculty, while mot of the song are easy for me to paly on expert the latter of which tiers killed my fingers...which i loved.
    • Quickplay+, i like this because it update the classic quick play with the challenge feature, which lgeths the game by a huge amount  (this is dependant on skill,  instrument  and number of players).
    • Warrior Of Rock Transformations: i like how over the top the transformations and they at eat use most of the stage up and are wuite elaborate

The Middle Ground (things that are there but i dont cear about)

    •  The Quest Mode Plot: i just think it serves its pouprose but its nothing special and that has not been told before

     The Bad Points:

    •  A small percentage of the song from the 93 setlist
    • The online not working from day 1 0f the UK release date)
    • The mixing of some song from the setlist, they make the songs sound weak.

Accentuates everything good and bad about Guitar Hero 0

I'm a bit of a music-game fanatic. Ever since I picked up Guitar Hero on the PS2, I've faithfully followed the genre through every single release. In fact, I'd estimate that over half my time playing video games is spent with rhythm games. So when I heard they were going to make GH6 the "ultimate" version, I was pretty pumped. While I can definitely say it is the ultimate version of Guitar Hero, it's also brings the least to the table. Before I talk about the actual game, I want to talk about m...
