NBA 2k Playgrounds (formerly NBA Playgrounds 2) is an arcade basketball game developed by Saber Interactive. Originally set for a release date of May 22, 2018, the game was to be published by Saber Interactive until it was delayed to October 16, 2018 when a deal with 2K Games was reached. The partnership with 2K would allow for the use of its exclusively licensed players, namely Michael Jordan.
On September 27, 2018, a closed beta test was held for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game and lasted until September 30.
Gameplay
The look of the court and the pace of the game was retooled to be slightly more realistic, but the players and environments still retain their cartoony aesthetics and over-the-top moves.
Sports commentator Ian Eagle reprises his role as the game's announcer, and while EJ "The Mayor" Johnson does not reprise his role as co-commentator, the game instead uses the Youtube streamers who helped promote the first NBA Playgrounds by commentating from a livestream.
Season Mode
New to Playgrounds 2 is Season Mode where two players from one team go head-to-head over a course of 15 games. After the season ends, the players advance to the Playoffs if they have enough victories. During the Playoffs, 16 teams from each Conference play each other in a best-of-2 Win-Lose Tournament, with the last two teams from either Conference playing in the last game for the Championship.
If the player manages to win the entire tournament series, they will unlock an exclusive teammate to the team just played as.
