Originally a carpenter named Jumpman, this Italian plumber has gone on to become the most recognizable video game character of them all, starring in a veritable pantheon of titles like kart racing and sports. He has been voiced by Charles Martinet for nearly 20 years.
The Original Donkey Kong made his debut in the game of the same name, where he tossed barrels at his nemesis Mario. His grandson, Donkey Kong Jr., went on to create a legacy of his own in games such as Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.
A Chinese martial artist and Interpol officer in the Street Fighter series. The "First Lady of Fighting Games," she is a recurring member of the series and was one of the eight original World Warriors of Street Fighter II.
Recurring figure in the Fire Emblem series. She's not a story character, but she often appears to present tutorials or suspend the game. On rare occasions, she appears as an NPC within the game world itself.

Mega Man X was created by Dr. Light to help defend the world after he and Mega Man were gone. He awakes 100 years after his creation and must fight a new evil, Sigma.
Squawks is one of the animal friends from the Donkey Kong Country series. Out of all the animal buddies, he has the most diverse set of abilities.
Sagat is a character in the iconic fighting game series Street Fighter. He was introduced in the first Street Fighter game, and is Ryu's arch-rival.
Zangief is a Soviet/Russian professional wrestler from the Street Fighter series, who fights for glory of his homeland. Although usually depicted in adaptations as a villain, he is undeniably a good guy in the games and often helps the other heroic/anti-hero characters face off against the title's antagonists.
One of the three Final Fight heroes, later appearing in the Street Fighter series. He works to become the 39th Master of the Bushin-ryu school of ninjutsu.
Goemon's side kick. A fat lazy man who has a tendency to get undressed if it means scoring a discount.
Enguarde the Swordfish is an animal buddy and recurring character who has aided the Kongs more than once in their adventures. This character gives the player increased speed on underwater areas as well as the ability to kill enemies with it's sharp bill.
A wandering martial-artist, Ryu is a master of the fictional fighting style, Ansatsuken. He is one of the main characters in the Street Fighter universe. Only those that have beaten him know his surname.
A surly, crotchety old widower, Cranky Kong made his first appearance in 1994's Donkey Kong Country for the SNES, heralded as the acerbic, wisecracking grandfather of the current Donkey Kong. He was the star of the original Donkey Kong, a fact he lets no one forget.
Laid back member of the Kong family, Funky Kong usually supplies services to the Kongs such as allowing them to return to previous worlds. He also appears in Mario Kart Wii & Mario Super Sluggers as a playable character.
A lovely blonde member of the Kong Family. She saves the player's game in Donkey Kong Country.
M. Bison is a powerful villain in the Street Fighter universe. He leads the evil organization Shadaloo and fights his opponents with 'Psycho Power'.
Rolento is the fourth stage male boss in Final Fight and the fifth stage boss in Final Fight 2. He would later go on to be a playable character in Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3.
Princess Peach Toadstool is usually the damsel in distress from the Mario franchise. She gets kidnapped frequently by Bowser, though she's not averse to being captured by various other villains from time to time.
Luigi is Mario's brother. He began as a simple palette swap of Mario, but was later differentiated. In his later forays, he provides comic relief.
Bowser is one of the most iconic villains in gaming. His role as the main antagonist in the Mario franchise has cemented this King of Koopas' status in video game history.
Dhalsim and Sally's son. He's pen-pals with Guile's daughter, Amy/Chris.
King K. Rool is the primary antagonist of the Donkey Kong Country series.
Inspired by Andre the Giant, and therefore originally known as "Andore" in Final Fight, Capcom would later list this Final Fight character's full name as Hugo Andore, and include him in the Street Fighter III games as merely "Hugo."
