So, I was worried about the battery life of my Kodak Zi8 and ipod touch, etc. I found this product on amazon -

    http://www.amazon.com/Tekkeon-MP1860A-TekCharge-Dual-Power/dp/B004OC0122/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1300746528&sr=1-2

It's actually more expensive than the single port model I bought last year-

      http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017KH6OU

Which is unfortunately out of stock (but maybe available elsewhere?)

Along with this DSi to USB charge cable -

    http://www.amazon.com/Unlimited-ZIP-GAME-DSI-B-Retractable-Charging-Nintendo-DS/dp/B00307YZ3I/ref=sr_1_31?ie=UTF8&qid=1300746705&sr=8-31

(there are cheaper ones but I like these with the collapsible cables)

And you are looking at 6-11 hours of extra playtime while away from an AC adapter. Not just for your 3DS but iphone, ipod, video camera, whatever.
It's a no brainer for me because I already owned one but I could see the $60 price being a bit much for some. I'm going to be using it a lot, I think though.

I seem to remember the single port battery model only being ~$30 so look for that. It also seems to charge devices very quickly - my Ipod touch 4th gen will charge from 20% to full in less than 20 min using this device. It's certified for iPods - if anyone knows if it's a bad idea to use this with a 3DS or DSi (same charge cable) let me know. I really don't see how it could be bad though as I've used it for my phone, my ipod, my psp, my camera, and lots of other things for a few months now.

good spot, im sure people who are genuinely worried about this will be glad of these options, the battery life doesnt concern me because i mostly play my handhelds in the house with plugs nearby.

yeah it's very small as well - I'd much rather throw one of these in my bag than add size with that nyko battery pack. Plus it works for almost anything that uses USB and who knows how reliable that 3rd party nonsense is. Probably will melt and explode in your pocket.

They're probably going to make the 3DS Lite friggin amazing... Making the current one almost obsolete.

I mean, look at old fatty DS (that I still use) I just bear with it to save money but man... My friend's Lite feels so much better.

The battery life for 3DS is similar to devices like the Ipad and Ipod touch - there's a limit to what they can do with batteries unless these things start getting bigger, heavier, and more expensive.

And really something like this would only be for people who spend a lot of time on airplanes or traveling to more than 3-4 hours away from an AC adapter. Obviously not an everyday thing.

In fact the iPod touch 4th gen only lasts about an hour and a half with brightness set to full, no wi-fi, and playing a movie. It's closer to four and a half hours with music playing, the screen on, and wi-fi connected.(closer to the 3DS's numbers for 3D on and Wi-Fi during gameplay)

But then it's just that evil nintendo screwing you over, not the realities of more powerful systems with brighter screens and more features with limitations of modern batteries.

What are you people doing for 5 hours straight that keeps you away from an outlet? Seriously.

I wouldn't mind more battery time,  but you would have to live on a airplane for it to be a big issue.
