    Just looking at this blog:
Top 5 Games You Need to Own on the Nintendo DS

Anyway, short version from the blog is that the 5 games you must have with your DS are:

    1. Advance Wars: Dark Conflict
    2. Mario Kart DS
    3. New Super Mario Bros
    4. Chrono Trigger DS
    5. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
The DS has an enormous library and some of the best RPG a console has ever had.  With so many games to choose from,   what would your 5 must have games be?

In what would have to be a very tough decision, I would agree with 2 of those choices, and my 5 would be:
Advance Wars: Dark Conflict European cover
Advance Wars: Dark Conflict European cover
    AU Box Art
    AU Box Art

Man that is a tough one.  I have yet to get Fire Emblem or Chrono Trigger which could sway my choices, as could Shin Megami.  Plus, I could have easily put both Advance Wars games in there, they are so good.

    Over to you.

I loved the first Advance Wars on DS and have yet to pick up Dark Conflict!!!  A "must own" list is kind of tough, as it depends hugely on personal taste.  So, as for MY personal taste...

You have to have a Mario game other than the remake of 64, i.e. either New Super Mario Brothers or Mario Kart.  Otherwise... I would hugely recommend Retro Game Challenge.  I keep coming back to that game more than any other DS game I own.  After that, you're getting into preferences of genre and of games within that genre.  For example, Dragon Quest IV has given me the most enjoyment of any RPG I've played on DS yet and it makes neither of these lists, and I don't know that it would make all that many lists in general.

I'll list these in no particular order.

    • Dragon Quest IV
    • Dragon Quest V
    • Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
    • Any Castlevania
    • Dragon Quest IX

Hmm... I guess I like Dragon Quest.

In my opinion, Advance Wars: Dual Strike was much better than Dark Conflict (it was called something else in here, but I don't remember what). I would say Dual Strike should be up there. New Super Mario Bros. deserves to be up there,  so do Mario Kart and Dawn of Sorrow. And I would go with either Metroid Prime: Hunters or Phantom Hourglass instead of Chrono Trigger.

    Mario Kart DS
    Chrono Trigger
    Pokemon Pearl
    Tetris DS
    Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

Some more finicky picks can come down to details, but basically every game discussed in this thread is really good.

I'm sure there are must-owns that I haven't picked up yet but of my collection I'd say:

    Puzzle Quest
    The World Ends With You
    Adv. Wars Dual Strike
    Phantom Hourglass
Clubhouse Games (if you have a non-gamer significant other)
      -or-
    FF4 if you don't

Not necessarily my top 5 games, though a couple favorites and some of my most wanted games.

    Meteos  (2005)
    Meteos  (2005)

    Advance Wars DS  (2005)
    Advance Wars DS  (2005)

    New Super Mario Bros. (2006)
    New Super Mario Bros. (2006)

The World Ends With You (2008)
The World Ends With You (2008)

    Rhythm Heaven (2009)
    Rhythm Heaven (2009)

This was really tough narrowing down to 5. I really wanted to toss in a Castlevania, Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart to further round out some genres with wide-appeal games.

I did something pretty similar here, but I'm going to go with my gut by itself here and come up with my personal top 5.
    New Super Mario Brothers
    Castlevania Order of Ecclesia
    The World Ends With You
    Elite Beat Agents
    Phoenix Wright (1-3)

I have a little bit to catch up - I have just past 198 hours  ^_^

It is pretty unlikely to find a bad game in anyone's top 5 really:
Dargon Quest - love them all
The World Ends With You - so easily could have been in my top 5
Elite Beat Agents - so much hilarity
Rhythm Heaven - such an oddity
Clubhouse Games - understated and simple addiction

Days of Ruin is its other name.  I do think Dual Strike probably had better replayability due to the scoring system.  I missed that in Dark Conflict, which I think is a better game minus that semi RPG element.  That is why it was such a tough choice.  I still desperately want a big Wii version of Advance Wars, not Battalion Wars.  I want that TBS and I want to big long story and I want better graphics so I can enjoy it on my plasma - just Advance Wars, but bigger and better - is that too much to ask for?

If you have a PS3 or a 360, try Military Madness. It's pretty much Advance Wars with better graphics (but no story) and the grids are hexagons instead of squares. Overall what makes me think Dual Strike is better than Days of Ruin (thank you!) is the tone and the characters.

I would have put in pics but the format was all strange.

I assume that is on XBLA?  (I have a  360).  Even if the gameplay was similar, I still want the characters and cartoon style thta I have grown to love over the 4 games.

What made Lock's Quest a winner for you?  I have it and truth is, I haven't given it a proper play - maybe a 30 minutes and then I was distracted by so many other great games.  I do like the look of it and I loves me strategy games - I must give it more time I suppose.

Hmm...well, I mostly use my DS for RPGs so my list would be heavy on those.

    1. Dragon Quest V
    2. Dragon Quest IV
    3. The World Ends with You
    4. Chrono Trigger
    5. Final Fantasy IV
I've played non-RPGs on the handheld, but the ones I have, I consider pretty disposable meaning good for a short amount of time but not really a keeper.  Not that there is anything bad about that, it's just not what I am personally looking for in a DS title.  I bought mine to play Phantom Hourglass, which was fun, but I didn't get really attached to my DS Lite until I started exploring its RPG content.

Objection! wheres the phoenix wright?! such a great series shouldn't be left out...

Ever since getting a psp, mostly anything in 3D on the DS disgusts me. It can make sprites look pretty nice, but when some of the 3D stuff just looks horrible now. Phantom hourglass probably would be the only exception because it still looks decent for 3D on the DS.

I don't feel comfortable making a 'list' because its mostly remakes that will fill most of it, but whatever

Trauma Center is a great original title that works great on the DS with the stylus.
The world ends with you, though i couldn't really get into it.. great original title.
Layton Brain teasers with some charm!
Elite beat agents Great use of the platform and stylus.
    Castlevanias 'Metroidvania' at its finest

    + Square enix remakes... -_-

It can be.  The longer you play, the harder it gets on the main story.  Plus, on Dual Strike (I thiink), after you win, there is a Hard Campaign.  Believe me, it is freakin' hard.  I gave up on about mission 16 of the 27 or so.  If you want to get a good score, you would have to do a lot of the missions over and over - every time you do something different to compensate for your previous strategy, it just reacts to your new strategy and screws you.  Man I played a lot of those games.  BEST HANDHELD SERIES EVER (that and Pokemon, and Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy Tactics  ^_^)
