At least they got the two best Kirby games.

Seriously, though, there's not a single dud on that list IMO. Super Punch-Out might be the closest...and maybe the inclusion of DKC1 instead of DKC2. Really surprised not to see Pilotwings on there, though.

I'm guessing Star Fox 2 is the complete ROM version, not the unfinished one that has been floating around.
Pretty good collection. Though I have to say I never cared much at all for Super Castlevania IV. Kirby Super Star though.. Fantastic.

Donkey Kong Country 2, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy II (IV), and Uniracers are all glaring oversights. Still, I'll be pre-ordering one as soon as they're available.

It would be cool if you could connect this thing to the internet and download new games to it from some kind of internet store or, even better, if you could put your own SNES carts in it and play those (and maybe save to internal memory in case of bad save batteries), but those points were brought up when the NES classic came out. I'd have paid $150 for one of these things if those were features.

I only say that because it's probably less of a classic than NES Punch-Out. And the "worst" game out of a list of fantastic games is still a pretty great game! ;)

This would count as Star Fox 2's first official release right? That means its a 2017 game? A new official Nintendo made SNES game in the year of our lord 2017? Technically?

STAR FOX 2 IS ACTUALLY BEING RELEASED!!! There has been a protoype rom floating around for years, which I've played and enjoyed, but it is unfinished and doesn't feature an official English translation (there are fan patches that translate it though). Does that mean the Star Fox 2 in this collection is the finished version of the game? This is crazy! An unreleased Nintendo game being made available officially!

Very surprising to see Star Fox 2 on that list considering all the bs that went on behind the scenes over that game. Kinda figured Miyamoto would have to be gone from Nintendo before it would ever get any kind of release.

While it's no doubt a great selection of games, I think not having Super Mario-All Stars, Mortal Kombat 2, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy II, Donkey Kong Country 2 & 3, and Pilotwings, are all some pretty glaring omissions. Especially when a game that was never released like Star Fox 2 is included.

I also think things like Uniracers, Killer Instinct, Mega Man X2 and X3, Sim City, Super Bomberman, and Illusion of Gaia could have made it.

Then again, do we know how much memory this Mini-SNES has?

    And... it's sold out (probably).

I'm more surprised that Nintendo has decided to include the Super FX games (both Star Fox games, and Yoshi's Island). What was the reason these games were not released on the Virtual Console? Also, you rerelease Earthbound again but still no word on Mother 3?

    Oh, Nintendo.

Probably not getting this thanks to Virtual Console still being a thing, but happy for the people that want it and definitely interested to see what a completed Star Fox 2 looks like.

Oh, and obligatory "EU SNES is better" post":

    No Caption Provided

Edit: Also, Kotaku has an update on Nintendo's... less than optimal production runs:

UPDATE (1:53pm): And here’s Nintendo, confirming that the company does plan to ship more SNES Classics, but only this year.

We aren’t providing specific numbers, but we will produce significantly more units of Super NES Classic Edition than we did of NES Classic Edition.

Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition is currently planned to ship from Sept. 29 until the end of calendar year 2017. At this time, we have nothing to announce regarding any possible shipments beyond this year.

Our long-term efforts are focused on delivering great games for the Nintendo Switch system and continuing to build momentum for that platform, as well as serving the more than 63 million owners of Nintendo 3DS family systems. We are offering Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition in special recognition of the fans who show tremendous interest our classic content.

I think there might have been a very short window a couple of months before it came out that you could, but that was it. In the US at least, you couldn't pre-order nearly anywhere, you HAD to lineup for hours before the store opened or got lucky the minute amazon put it up for sale.

Pre-orders for the NES Classic got rocked like crazy. I'm sure a lot of us tried (myself included) then to find out that pre-orders were sold out. We simply waited for more stock, stores would get stock and be out within minutes. We were patient enough, only to realize that there will be no stock ever again. Scalpers literally stalked out major retail chains that would get normal shipments, only to buy every one they have in stock and flip them on eBay and craigslist. It was a real issue, not that people did not try to pre-order those things. If Nintendo/retailers do not limit sales this time around or up their manufacturing after initial release, it's going to happen again, and I'll be pissed about it again.

@elyk247: When you're curating from a list of almost 800 games down to 21, there's bound to be "glaring omissions". I think if you're trying to show the full breadth of the SNES' catalog, having multiple games in the same series is a bad way to go. Chrono Trigger and MKII should've been in there though.

No Chrono Trigger is a massive oversight, especially if they are working with Square to get Final Fantasy III (6) and Secret of Mana. Still, damn good line-up.

What is the Japanese version of this going to look like? I might have to get that version.

@tanookisuit: I'm not saying it isn't an issue, I just see a lot of complaints from people when they most likely didn't put any effort in. Unfortunately that's the way it is but I get the feeling a lot of people didn't even try then complained afterwards. Nintendo's a business too that needs to keep supply and demand in consideration; I'm sure they don't want to pump 10 million or so of these out just to have them gather dust on shelves. Hope things are better this time though; purchase limits will go a long way towards that I think.

Good lord I am going to buy this HARD. Probably try to snag a Super Famicom version as well. Maybe the internal hardware just swaps between the cases. And I really hope Nintendo didn't fix the hacking situation. Even then, someone will figure out some way to hard wire a chip on there or something and I'll get all the SNES games.

I got the NES one (for $60) and I didn't really even want it that much. The SNES is a whole different story though.
