@teddie: Though multiple people have chimed in: It's easily FF6. FF3 is a Famicom game.

Nintendo was founded in Kyoto, Japan in 1889 as a manufacturer of hanafuda playing cards. The company went through several small niche businesses before becoming a video game company.
Nintendo Announces SNES Classic -
No Chrono Trigger is a massive oversight, especially if they are working with Square to get Final Fantasy III (6)
That's a good point actually, did they get FF6 on this thing or is it actually just 3?
I'll admit that when I saw FF3 on the list, this was my first thought too, because having the actual FF3 would be a totally Nintendo thing to do. They're probably also make about ten of the things, which would also be a totally Nintendo thing to do.
As someone that works at Target, I'm already rubbing my temples. At least they were up front about it being a limited run this time. I guess that's something. I guess.

They were also upfront about there being a significantly larger supply of them.
The CORD IS STUPID SHORT AGAIN! WTF Nintendo!
edit: I will add that it's a whopping 5 feet instead of 3 feet long. This is still stupidly short with respect to anyone's standard TV setup in 2017.
Just chiming in to make the same snide post as like 5 other people to say I hope that the like 20 people who manage to get their hands on one of these enjoy them. Hopefully someone doesn't buy up a whole store's lot and then only like 16 people will get to play with one of these.

I get the point of these things is the nostalgia factor, but come on toss bluetooth in the damn thing. Is part of the nostalgia sitting on the floor like you are 5 years old again?
Making "significantly more," while simultaneously saying they will only produce them until the end of the calendar year is a very Nintendo-like solution to the shortage problem the NES Classic had. Good luck, everyone.
People already selling their pre-orders on eBay for £200
And people have actually bought them (looking at sold listings)
Pffffft!

Tell me about it
A little bummed this list isn't as big as the NES classic, but not a bad list nonetheless. The fact that Star Fox 2 is on there is definitely the most interesting inclusion on the list, since that's seen as one of the biggest what if's of the SNES and this will mark that game's first official release.
I'll be very glad to have quick access to Link to the Past or Yoshi's Island with a real SNES controller without having to use my cartridges. Worth it.
I've probably beaten all of the life and value out of these games over the years (besides Punch-Out) and Star Fox 2 not only sucks but it's been available on emulators for almost 20 years. Plus I'd purchased most of these on the Wii U *sigh* virtual console a couple years back. The addition of 2 controllers is a really nice move.
I get why people would want this, especially if you never dug into the SNES' bigger games... but at this point I'd need some stuff that was never properly translated/released (GBA/PSP ports were awful in most cases) in the US like Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia, Seiken Densetsu 3, Terranigma, The Firemen, Front Mission: Gun Hazard, or a proper damn version of Rockman & Forte... to make it worth $80.
@passivespiral: The cord is 2 whole feet longer than the NES classic. Gotta make up that cost somewhere.
I have a SNES with all but two of these games (Kirby's Dream Course and Star Fox 2, and I had Earthbound but sold it and picked up a VC copy after finishing it). Not even remotely interested.
I've secured a pre-order but I'm already unsure if I'll keep it. There are several games on the list that I'm excited to have easy access to and the inclusion of a second controller is great but the games list could easily have been longer. Fair enough if they didn't want to have to cut in more third parties but there is plenty of first party games that would have cost them virtually nothing to include, especially given it's now $20 more
What makes the lack of Chrono Trigger even more baffling is that Legend of the Seven Stars and FFIII is on there. I honestly would have cut Yoshi's Island, Super Punch Out and Star Fox 2.
I fully expect Nintendo are going to do exactly the same as the did for the NES Classic, because they're NINTENDO. So they won't make enough and they'll be impossible to find in stores and they'll be discontinued in the new year. I expect nothing less, but I will be happily proved wrong. I won't be though, because it's Nintendo.

What a bummer. $20 more than then NES classic, but 9 less games.
It is pretty safe to assume that following the massive success of the NES Classic, third parties will be demanding more money to license their games. It's not surprising that there are fewer games and it costs more.
Ok Nintendo, I'll try to give you my money one more time, but if you don't make enough of these I can't be held responsible for doing something dumb. In actuality, legally speaking, I totally can be held responsible. But it still makes me want to if the supply isn't there.
@passivespiral: Two controllers instead of just one in the NES classic
With so many ways to play these games i just don't see the appeal of these things. Shit i still have my snes lol.
I wonder with the various technicalities surrounding the release, whether the developers of Starfox 2 (and the other games) are still cut in for royalties; Argonaut are now dead, so I wonder where the Starfox 2 money would go? Based on assured sales of the mini SNES, how weird is it going to be for a developer on an original SNES game to get a royalty check for it, in 2017?!
@warpr: have you tried calling your local game store to see if they're taking pre orders? I did this morning and managed to get one.

I live in south america, but wanted to have it shipped to family living in the Netherlands (and first tried amazon.co.uk, because that's where I usually order my games from [1]). And it seems most shops are waiting to get official shipment numbers from Nintendo before taking pre-orders. I found intertoys.nl and foregames are taking pre-orders right now -- I ordered on intertoys.nl, and they took my money right away, so I guess they're confident they'll get enough. We'll see.
[1] I prefer amazon.co.uk because that ensures I get an english version -- It is super rare, but for example the Layton games are localized without an english option.
This thing has a big ol' dirty "AC ADAPTER NOT INCLUDED BUT REQUIRED" message on it over here and it's already not cheap, so I'm out again. There's always a catch with Nintendo...
Looks like this has a regular USB micro connection for power, I imagine most people will have enough cables and chargers for that laying around. You can probably power it off of your TV's USB port even, so you just need the cable.
Do we know if the controllers are USB yet? If I can use them with my original SNES I will definitely buy this.
This picture makes it look like they are going to continue using the Wii Nunchuk adapter so presumably a Wii Classic Controller would still work like they did with the NES Classic. It also seems like the original controller ports are purely cosmetic and are just hiding the actual controller ports which is bizarre.
This is exactly what they are doing. @lime_slime You unfortunately won't be able to use them with your original SNES, which is a shame. I only have one original SNES controller and would love to get a second one. I played the whole of Shovel Knight on PC with mine.
