Lost in the world of Omno

I appreciate it when a game just throws you into a situation and just says here is the button you push to explore. No frills or grand story needed. That is fairly close to what this game is going for. Sure some bits and pieces of lore are scattered around but a lot like Journey this is a game about experiencing a whole other world.

Omno puts you in the place of a being that seems to be on a pilgrimage of some sort. Why they are seeking this enlightenment is unknown. Still pressing on to the next step in the journey is the goal of our friend and his magical little flying buddy.

At the start this game does feel slow but once you get the right tools you can really fly your way through each level.

As they start their adventure it becomes pretty obvious how each level is set up. A selection of magical orbs that unlock the next level must be found along with a diary left by another traveler. Tallying all the different animals is also a part of the game but that kind of just happens without really trying. But how will the player collect all those different objects?

Well at the start you will only have access to a jump and a magical staff that can activate the old monuments scattered around the world. Each new environment bestows a new ability. Like being able to dash or the ability to glide. Every time this happens it also leads to new obstacles that must be dealt with. For example once you have the dash more platforming moments tend to pop up in the next level. Thanks to that Omno never quite got old at any point. Always a new challenge of some sort awaited me. Er well it may be a challenge but nothing in here is very difficult.

Even the fact that each section ends with a puzzle is just a minor inconvenience at best. Not much thought must be put into solving each one. Just do some simple platforming or put thing A here to activate thing B. But this really is a brain off kinda game so I don’t really see that in a negative light. Heck once I had most of the abilities I kind of switched on my speedrunner part of myself. Moving around the world quickly was quite fun. Unsure if that was intended but still a cool thing I noticed.

Visuals aren't mind blowing but I do think it looks pretty

As a game I played through in the course of a week I enjoyed my time playing it. A good little distraction that was fun to look at and experience. Which feels like what the developers were trying to make. So they met their goal in spades. If any of this sounds like something you might enjoy then check this game out.
