    Overview

Optional bosses are often found in RPG games. These bosses can be much more powerful than the standard plot bosses. An example would be fighting Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy VIII. Optional bosses often give players the chance to acquire higher quality loot. MMO raid instances often also include bosses that can be skipped at the discretion of the raid. The difficulty of these type of bosses is often on par with that of the rest of the instance. While these bosses might be optional in practice, they may be required in order to acquire loots that are exclusive to that bosses loot table.
