Alright so recently I finished building my rig and now I have a ton of files on my laptop that need to be transferred over. I have no external hard drive making the process even harder. I do have a router and Ethernet cables but so far I haven't been able to get a connection between the two computers. I have too much data to move with a CD-RW disc and my flash drive doesn't have the storage space I need since it's also my Xbox Memory Card (Which my console is so full I can't move anything from the flash drive back onto it). I tried a HomeGroup but it wouldn't work at all either. Any ideas on this problem?

You could transfer it over the network. Create a workgroup, share out the folders, and wait a long ass time.

I personally would just pull the drive out of the laptop and connect it to my desktop. Since you don't have an adapter, just connect it to your motherboard.

@crick120: If you're not worried about bandwidth, it'd be easy enough to throw stuff up on Google Drive or Dropbox and download it when it's all been uploaded. Otherwise you can just buy a flash drive; they're like a dollar per gig now.

Here's a pretty good, quick and dirty walkthrough of how to handle this with a token Ethernet cable. Seems to be doing the work on a Windows 8 machine at some point, which would indicate this should work with any version of Windows post-1995.

Do it over a network. Start it at night when you go to bed, and then wake up that morning with it done. It will likely take some time, but it shouldn't be that hard.

    I would agree with this.
