I had to RMA my CPU fan because the fan blades brushed the heat sink. Anyway Im getting the replacement today, in a few hours. How much should I put on the cpu? I know less is more, but how much? The size of a dime? Penny? I want to make sure the bottom of my Zalman fan is totally coated.

Oh and is there a program that will monitor the temp settings on EVERYTHING. CPU, Motherboard, HardDrives, Graphics Card? It would convinent to see everything in one place.

you want to have the smallest amount possible, your best bet is to trial and error simple put some one then look at it, use your fingers to apply it there should simply be a film of heating transfer compound on it.

You don't need too much at all, just enough to cover the entire thing but not too thick a layer as it is really just bridging the tiny gaps between the heat sink and cpu.

I used an amount about the size of a grain of rice and I found the best way to apply it was by putting my finger into the corner of a small plastic bag and spreading it around the surface evenly. You don't want that shit on your hands, nor do you want any of the oils on your hand to come in contact with the cpu.

    like this

you can also just leave it in the center and let the heatsink spread it around for you.

And I think EVEREST shows temperatures. However they are never entirely accurate from software. RealTemp, SpeedFan, HDTune, CoreTemp and a handful of others are nice to have.

Very little, as others have said. Just put a dab in the middle and when you press the heatsink down it'll spread it around for you.

Too much and it could leak off...causing all sorts of issues you don't want to have to deal with. (have learned this the hard way! :-P)
