    Dreams of the past

    Pinball Dreams

     Starting words

Pinball games are very basic idea. You shoot and use flippers to control ball to avoid it to go to the hole and main goal is to get score high as you can. So why is that so hard to make entertaining in video game format? Is it the ball physics or the board layout? These were the questions when amiga was new and here came Digital Illusion CE to show how it is done right. The game was smash hit and almost everyone who owned amiga had this game.

    Why is it the best?

But why it was smash hit? The reason might be that the game makers spend lot of their time to make this most realistic and best pinball game in that time. One programmer just spend whole summer coding ball physics. If that aint feat worth to lift your hat to I don't know what is.  Or is that the game boards and their layout was carefully planned and tested to perfection. Anyone who has played Pinball dreams have their favorite table. Mine is Nightmare what is horror themed table. One thing what gives me still smiles and memories is the music. The songs in this particular Pinball game was superb and even today 2010 they are embed in my playlist of best amiga songs. Every song fit perfectly on the table and gave it the feeling like you were playing authentic Pinball Machine with sounds effects and all.

    Many years later

Now many years later I come upon the game in Playstation network Minis section and the memories flood back. And price of mere 6 euros I could relive my childhood fun. I took the bait and I am glad I did. The game playes exactly as I remember smooth as I remembered.

     Is it fun?

But is it fun now as it was in the years of amiga's glory? I can say it is. There is something about this game what lasts generations. Perhabs it is the simplicity of it all. Or it is that it has been designed well and care. Of course if you start looking for negative points from the game.  You could say that only 5 tables to choose from is small amount and that the graphics arent best HD pictures there is but for old game they look really well.

    Summary

Well to wrap this review up. I say from the PSN Minis section Pinball dreams is more valuable game than it initial price of 6 euros. It is a fun game what you can play on PSP and on PS3.  It is easy to pick up and play and even small kids will enjoy it. The game has few flaws graphics are not crisp as they could be, but they have stand the test of time. Only 5 tables can feel small selection, but every table is well crafted and fun to play. The game is fun now as it was when it came out on amiga. For 6 euros it is worth the ticket.
