A species of carnivorous plants that reside in pipes. Some versions can also spit fireballs.

Overview

The Piranha Plant is an enemy in the Super Mario series of games that first appeared in Super Mario Bros. It is a venus flytrap-like plant that emerges from the top of pipes in the Mushroom Kingdom. Variants of the Piranha Plant appeared as early as Super Mario Bros 3 when they would emerge from pipes that hung from the ceiling or jutted sideways from walls, and some also started to spit fireballs. With the Piranha Plant being an established enemy type in the Mario universe, the trend continued with jumping Piranha Plants in Super Mario World. Super Mario Sunshine was the first appearance of Petey Piranha, a huge, walking Piranha Plant that represents the ultimate evolution of the species.
