Hey guys ive been itching to get a good racing title for a while but  nothing has jumped out at me ...well except for Forza but I dont have an Xbox. Ive thought about getting Gran Turismo but ive heard nothing but bad stuff about that game. So my question to you is ;  Whats the best racing game on PS3, or should I wait for a game coming out in the future?

Please note Im sorta into realistic racing games, Need For Speed is about as arcade as ill go, so please keep that in mind

The only people that hate on GT5 are the same ones that just bought into the hype and didn't really think if they are actually interested in a sim racer.

The thing I saw about GT5 that turned me off was the graphics, I know its trivial but the cars look awesome and everything else looks like PS1 graphics. Ill look into Burnout and wipeout

DiRT 3. By far the most fun I've ever had in a racing game, sim or not.

You've gotta be joking. GT5 is a pretty game from head-to-toe, no worse than Forza 3 in any regard.

This. GT5 has a few problems but overall if you liked the previous Gran Turismo games you will like GT5, and Polyphony has been very good with there continued support with patches and events.

But i would also recommend Burnout Paradise even tho it is not very realistic, its just a lot of fun.

Check out Hot Pursuit.  I was a huge GT fan as well, but between the two, I find myself playing Hot Pursuit much, much more.

@StickyW3b: Realistic , you say? Then there's nothing better than GT5 (ignoring PC titles). Unfortunately it has become popular to hate on the internet, but I can vouch for it having the most satisfying 'feel' of any racing game. The menu system is tedious, but the gameplay/graphics/sound (you can use custom soundtracks if you want) and developer support is second to none.

Dirt 2/3 are also brilliant, with a nice balance between sim/arcade racing and again a very satisfying 'feel'.

Paradise might be too arcadey for your tastes but it's definitely fun!

I bought gt5 on launch and have enjoyed it. The graphics outside of the actual race area is not the best but when your actually racing its not about looking around and admiring the view but trying to win :D Best sim for ps3. Dirt 3 is also a very very fun game for everything that is not on pavement.

-Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. Turn up the sound effects, the metal and drive in first-person. It's a lot of fun.
-Wipeout HD with the Fury add-on. Play zone mode and while zoning out to Prodigy. It doesn't get much better.

Hey thanks for the link NTM ill refer to that in the future. Anyways I rented GT5 and just returned it this evening, I had it for 3 days. That being said while it was pretty good I dont like having to buy a ton of different cars just to do different races. Now before you jump on me i never played a Gran Turismo before. I understand it adds to realism but I bought a Comaro and if I had my way that would be the car I use through the whole game, I want to jsut spend my money on that and when I get bored ill buy a new car. But it seemed like I had to keep buying different types of cars, many of which I diddnt like. I had to buy a old car, a old Japanese car, a Italian car, a european car, a mazda roadster, a toyota hatchback, the list goes on

Im going to check out motorstorm (I know its nothing like GT5 but I still think it looks good.)

If you like a game that feels good then get GT5. I would not recomend it to anyone that is not familiar to GT in the past.

    Gran Turismo 5, of course.

Whoever wrote a bad review for the game, either has not played a Gran Turismo game before, or doesn't like realistic racer sims, or I don't know what is wrong with him. GT5 has its share of problems, as any game, but overall it's superb.

theres hardly any this gen hope you got all 3 systems because most of the racing scene is obscure titles on the wii

    but any how

    1- mariokart wii

    2 -gt5

    3 forza 2 3 or wait for 4

    4 pgr 3 and 4

    5 grid

    6 dirt 2

    7 nascar 2011 or 2009 dont get 2008

    8 midnight club la

    9 burnout revenge xbox360

    10 burnout paradise

11 mini desktop racers wii -akin to the old days classic micromachines theres one on indie games but i dont recommend it , its hard as heck

    12 -race pro

13 f1 games, -theres several of those on ps3 wii xbox360

14 nfs games - you know them ,

    they are

mostwanted , carbon shift nitro-wii hot pursuit pro street undercover shift 2 then need for speed the run comes this year

thats all for the major series games

    heres those obscure wii ones

    1 dodge challenger vs chargers

    2 ford racing offf road

    3 camero vs corvete

    4 british motor racing classic

    5 classic chrysler racing

    6 monster truck world circuit

    7 gt pro series

8 monster truck 2 stunt racer

    9 off road extremes

    10 crusin

these wii racers may not look pretty but get the job done , they are also cheap to find , so it wont be hard on your wallet ,

but ya this gen has been dry as far as good racing games are concerned,

i had to make this list up with all the games i actually own lol

Well if your into realistic racing games then Gran Turismo 5 is the best, As a big fan of the series I was disappointed with GT5 but its still a good game with plenty of content to enjoy, It's a shame you do not have a 360 as Forza is the best racing sim on consoles imo.

The new F1 2011 game is great been playing it recently, and Dirt 3 is a great realistic rally game.

Need for speed shift 2 is a decent game, the sense of speed is amazing but its handling model is not quite on par with GT and forza.

Some fun but more arcade style games are Burnout paradise, NFS: hot pursuit, Grid, split second and blur.

Motorstorm is a great series, but hardly realistic. Same goes for Wipeout.

I'd definitely recommend Dirt 3 though, if you haven't played that yet.. Otherwise, pick up an Xbox and get Forza.

If you want realistic racing, get Gran Turismo 5. It's a good game, even though in my opinion Forza is a better game because Forza provides better gaming experience. GT5 has great car physics and all, but I enjoy playng Forza more. If you don't want GT5, try GRID.

Hot Pursuit is great, as well as Dirt 2 and 3. If you're really into racing and want a challenging racing game (and not a drving game like Gran Turismo 5) try either F1 2010 or F1 2011 from Codemasters.
