I'm kind of surprised to see it just out of the blue.

Just regular ass PS2 games for $9.99 each. No Trophies or anything as far as I know. Just made to run on PS3 hardware.

Also a pretty good starting lineup.

    • Grim Grimoire
    • Ring of Red (Personal favorite)
    • Maximo: Ghosts to Glory
    • Odin Sphere
    • God Hand

What do you all think of this?

I am really thinking about buying a few of these games. I kind of want to play Ring of Red, Odin Sphere, and God Hand.

I don't know much about Grim Grimoire or Maximo. Are they any good?

Considering they are focusing on semi-obscure, cult games; I think it's off to a good start. The price point is respectable (though I'll wait for PS+ discounts to buy any of these because I'm a cheap bastard).

I'm curious about how the upscaling is going to look this time. Time for an Odin Sphere Quick Look?

    I know right.

@GalacticPunt: Yeah I havent pulled the trigger on any of them yet. But $10 is not bad at all. I kind of expected $15-20.

I remember the slowdown in Odin Sphere being a major pain in the ass. It being emulated on the PS3(or however it works) wouldn't happen to fix that issue, would it? Sorry if this is a really dumb question.

also, God Hand owns. If you haven't played God Hand, go buy it. Now.

I think for $10 all of those are a great deal. When you think of obscure, amazing PS2 games all of those make the list. I'm expecting some weeks to be crap but let's hope they add a lot more desirable PS2 games.

I'm not sure. That is actually a good question. It may suffer from slowdown, if it did in the original version, depending on how good the emulator is. I would hope that they made some kind of improvements.

Also I am totally downloading god hand right now. Never played it before.

They're $9.99 each just to be clear. Not sure if you thought it was some sort of bundle or not.

protip: you can cancel out of almost all of your attacks with a neutral dodge (up on the right thumbstick). the game was honestly a bit frustrating for me until I found that out.

I hate you for reminding me. Especially since I'll be 22 later this month. T_T

But God Hand, eh? I might pick that up since I've heard great things about it (plus it's impossible to find, legitimately or not). Ten bucks sounds pretty steep for a PS2 game though. At least, in comparison to the second hand collections you find in game stores which are dirt cheap.

If they fix the slowdown, Odin Sphere would be perfect. What a great game!

Man most of these games are SUPER niche. I love it!

also the description of ring of red in the PSN store sucks.

Take on an alternate history in this thrilling turn based strategy game

Its actually a real time battle system that plays out on a SRPG style board. Also with mechs.

No no I was meaning $10 each, I usually just round up PSN prices. You are right though $9.99 for each technically, sorry if there was confusion.

Anyone buying God Hand on here, be warned that it can kick your ass if you're not careful.

I can't speak to Grim Grimoire but I really enjoyed Maximo. I think it was meant to be kind of a polygonal spiritual successor to Ghosts 'n' Goblins and, as such, can be quite difficult in spots.

Well I am playing Ring of Red right now. Seems to run fine. The loading times might even have been sped up, but I cant really recall what they were like in the original version. But here they seem to be non-existant.

I love me some Maximo, the first game is not the prettiest and can be really punishing with an example being losing all of your collected upgrades when you die save for those you place in your 3 "safe slots" (you can get more of these slots by selecting the "kiss" reward after a boss #protip). It also has a shield with limited durability, a few really difficult platforming sections, the more you get gameover the more expensive continues become and you have to pay to save your game inbetween levels (you can replay easy levels to grind for money though).

Here's the old Gamespot video review for it:

The second game, Maximo vs Army of Zin, is a lot more forgiving. It streamlined a bunch of stuff and has a more evolved combat system. It also happens to be one of my favorite games, so I'm gonna link you to that review as well (featuring GB's own Brad Shoemaker I should mention).

Capcom's participation has me dreaming about Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter and Capcom vs. SNK 2 getting released this way. The former has a chance, but the latter seems very unlikely.

It's alittle hard to get used to, but once you get past the lurning curve it really is a great game ;) I'll be getting Odin Sphere myself since a physical copy is pretty expensive over here.

so they take o ut ps2 bc to charge 10 bucks to enable 1 game each wow, so they basically telling us we got screwed , no thanks , glad i still have my 60 gig

this would only be good for those who dont own a ps2 - but ,,, ---- how many own a ps2 150 million , sloppy sloppy 2nds we should say , at least the trillogys have updated visuals and such , 30 bucks a pop for them no less , id rather spend 30 on a updated version then the same price for no actual copy of the old game i could find for the same price at my local pawn shop lol ,

    and since i got a bc ps3 , i dont need this , lol

That's totally a line-up I can get behind. I loved Grim Grimoire and Odin Sphere. Maximo was always a guilty pleasure of mine, although I'd like to see Army of Zin a bit more than Ghosts to Glory.

Please give me Final Fantasy XII that game had such an amazing way to explore maps and combat, i didn't care for the story that much, but the way the world was constructed was really well done for me, i could just play it non stop (well...until i reached lvl 99)
