oh man i am gonna play the shit out of some Rogue Legacy on my Vita.
PlayStation 4

PlayStation 4 is Sony's fourth home video game console, released on November 15, 2013 in North America, and November 29, 2013 in Europe. On November 10 2016, Sony released the Playstation 4 Pro, an updated version of the console targeting 4K gaming.
Everything You Need to Know From Sony's Gamescom Event
It's also confirmed that Sony is gonna offer subsidized PS4 bundles together with Deutsche Telekom broadband plans. Pretty strange turn of events...
Originally i thought only Microsoft would be dumb enough to actually pay Deutsche Telekom, but it looks like Sony is going full out.
For those who don't know: Deutsche Telekom has been heavily criticized this year for silently to changing their "unlimited data" plans into "volumen data" plans. Without lowering the cost for the plans or compensating the customers in any other way. This has been without precedent in Germany, as most volumen based plans had been phased out over the years, except for mobile plans.
Deutsche Telekom didn't and does not care about net neutrality. Instead they kept on telling content providers: Well you don't want us to slow down your traffic? Just pay us some extra, and your traffic will never be throttled!
The result of that: Customers pay Deutsche Telekom up to 50€ a month for 50 Mbit access to the internet, yet you can't watch any HD YouTube without if having to buffer for minutes first. Because Deutsche Telekom gives YouTube packets lower priority in their own routing. To fix this, Deutsche Telekom now demands that Google (or any other content provider with high traffic) pays them for people watching YouTube.
Basically Deutsche Telekom is holding net neutrality hostage for a ransom and Sony just agreed to pay that ransom. That's an really really really bad example they set.. Because now ISP's know they can get away with this, charging for same service three times. Worst case: Now they gonna look for other traffic they gonna charge extra.
Wanna check your mails? No problem, only 5€ for 5 MB Email traffic!
Wanna share stuff on Facebook? Book the Facebook-Option! 200 Facebookvisits for only 5€!
Wanna watch the latest GB QL on YouTube? Book the YouTube HD option, giving you 200 Minutes of HD video for only 5€ extra!
Wanna watch the latest GB QL on GB.com? Too bad we don't offer booking option for that, but you can just buy 2 GB (enough for a HD TNT) of traffic for 5€!
This might not seem like a problem to people in countries where volumen plans are the dominating plans offered. But like i mentioned before: In Germany we've gotten rid most of them except for the mobile sector. The few ISP's that still offer volumen plans offer, them very cheaply because they are aware that this day and age only very few people surf the net with volumen plans. Deutsche Telekom, now with the help of Sony, are basically pushing German Internet infrastructure back by a whole decade...
Btw what's up with not even listing the EU release date? Seriously?
A 12GB PS3?
Hope no one buying that plans on playing a game that requires installation!
People bought that one a bunch here in Europe already, just to get a load-time advantage in games that use installs. People are crazy.
Installing an actual HD in it is no problem, you just take any 2.5" drive and jam it in there with the (separately purchased?) HD mounting rails and let it format and do its job.
Not surprising it would be released in the middle of November and at least the Vita's finally getting a price cut for both the handheld and its memory cards.
I hope more people buy Vita. It's pretty great even without these announcements IMO...is a shame it's perceived as being a barren wasteland of games.
Great conference, cannot wait for more info on Shadow of the Colossus. Minecraft and Twitch stuff was also pretty surprising, but good on Sony for getting those. Also a ton of great looking indie titles, some of them at launch that were unannounced before.
System interface looked great, fast and responsive, and the touchpad typing is a great addition to the system.
Also good to see Ubisoft able to show off AC4 again after the crash at E3. Won't be a Day One buy for me, but good looking game that I'll pick up down the line. Watch Dogs, on the other hand, will be Day One, super excited for that one.
Shadow of the Colossus?
Ooops, meant Beast, lol.
Yeah, that's what I was wondering. No way there would be something as awesome as a new Shadow of the Colossus.
So other than release date, the biggest PS4 announcement was TwitchTV?
Sony must be feeling pretty confident about Europe because that's pretty freaking underwhelming. I like some of the Indie games, but that was a pretty weak showing considering the expectations going into this were kind of reversed for me. Thought MS would have less and Sony more. I guess they only reason that they did a press conference is mainly because of the launch date unveil.
Insane that the Xbone may actually come out first. I'm praying for an apocalyptic same-day launch though, since I don't plan on buying either right away and would love to see the madness unfold.
Isn't the Twitch thing just a player? That's not really gaining anything on MS if so (I missed that part of the stream).
Shadow Of the Beast remake? I know at least one person whom this news will of interest to.
Now you know 2. Still own Shadow 1, 2 and 3 for the A3000T that sits in my collection closet most of the time. Can't wait to see more of the reboot.
Lacking a credit card, I've missed out on all the indie goodness. Good thing I can refill my PSN wallet with cards. Looking forward to playing all those games man.
Distinct lack of *big* game announcements though. Hopefully those will be forthcoming at TGS. Really want to see Monster Hunter 4 on PS Vita.
@alexglass: MS don't care for Europe. They couldn't even hold a conference. They couldn't even say a release date. Also PS4 Launches in 32 Countries This Year. PS4 has another Conference at TGS so more games will be announced.
I had to head off to a meeting in the middle of the conference. I managed to tune in for a moment and they were talking about partnering with ISP's or something along the lines? Jeff mentioned something about how it made sense for GaiKai but I couldn't listen for long before I had to divert my attention.
What was that all about? Is it what @nethlem is referring to?
Wow. I keep expecting Sony to start reverting to type now that I have the pre-order in. But that's a big chunk of fan service right there.
I, for one, look forward to the PS4 being my Isaac, Drive Club, and indie game machine for the first year or so, till the system starts hitting its stride. Still not sure if I'll even bother buying a 'AAA' launch game; they're bound to hit the bargain bins hard in a few months.
Twitch, I'm sure for some that will be a big deal. I don't find their actual streams to be head and shoulders above the other services, but the community being there does matter. A lively chat is at least half of what makes a stream succeed.

????
They do one every year. I take it this was your first time paying attention to gamescom?
It was a good showing. Lots of titles that were new. But just way to indie focused for me. Great that they support indies, but I ain't paying $400 for a indie machine.

A 250GB WD drive is 60 bucks on Newegg. I was annoyed first too, but that seems a good deal.

Online multiplayer experiences like Battlefield 4 are amazing at launch. There's something infectious about discovering a new game with millions of other players. Also, never will the barrier of entry be lower and more welcoming.
@kanerobot: Stream and viewer
@pompouspizza: Just got a email from amazon.co.uk saying 29th.
I laughed really hard early on at that quick-close-up zoom.
What's with this 12GB PS3. Seems like a mistake to sell a system with less than 160GB onboard.
Otherwise an OK show. They are just toeing over the line of acceptable cockiness; heavy handed on the "we've been consistent" line.

J-just don't mention the part where we decided you have to pay for online now o-okay?
@ducksworth: Yup that's what i've been talking about.
The funny thing is how both Sony and Deutsche Telekom make it look like it's something that just happened for the good of everybody. When it basically went like this:
Telekom - Damn.. we want somebody to pay us extra for regular internet traffic, who's dumb enough for that?
Sony - Damn... Microsoft has all this cloud shit while our infrastructure is slow ass, what we gonna do?
So kettle found pot and here we are now. I wouldn't be surprised to see similar stuff in other regions. ISP's partnering with Sony to offer broadband plans together with a subsidized PS4 (Confirmed for Germany and Deutsche Telekom). Especially in countries where the majority of ISP's only offer volumen plans, this could give Sony a enormous advantage over Microsoft.
Imagine you've got a choice between:
A) Subsidized PS4, with unlimited traffic for streaming/downloading on the PS4.
B) Non-subsidized Xbone, all traffic counts towards your monthly limit, worst case: You gonna have to pay extra traffic monthly
Given those choices the more sensible one is pretty clear. On one side it's an pretty impressive move by Sony, on the other side i'm still angry that they paid Deutsche Telekom the ransom after the German public has tried to fight this for months.
@jouseldelka: Ustream is far more popular in Japan.
Not sure why people would complain about the cheap 12gb PS3. Takes about 15 minutes to swap out the hard drive and you can get a 1tb drive for less than $100. A 1tb PS3 for $300 is great.
I know this is an American website, but you know you have a huge European audience. Why completely omit all Europe information from an article about a European press conference? They gave out the information at exactly the same time.

Are you being serious? Sony announces alot of new cool looking games and a release date but hey, MS announces another Fable game and its pretty much a tie right?
Edit: Also whats up with not adding the EU release date? And now Ustream is done just because Twitch is added? Well I guess since GB is so heavily intertwined with Twitch it was expected, so hey fuck Ustream.
@unpopularkarama: Yeah, Rime was the one that stuck out for me.

You do release that almost all of the games are on PC,im playing the Warthunder beta right now.
The production crew were like poop coming out of my butt
This so much. The conference was just unwatchable on the stream. Would be nice if someone could put up something that looks decent.
I'd be more excited about the Twitch announcement if I could consistently watch HD streams on there. I have an 80mbit connection and live in NA, yet somewhere between my ISP and Twitch there's a bottleneck that makes even 360p lag really bad at times.
Twitch support's only answer to this problem is to call my ISP and complain. Like one customer's call is going to make them completely reroute their network. Isn't this something that companies like Twitch should have somebody working full time on? Meeting with ISPs and trying to work out network peering? I don't think I'm the only one with this problem, and I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of complaints about this after the PS4 launches.
@connerthekewlkid: Titanfall is coming to PC as well, but that doesn't stop the video game press from climaxing over the fact that it comes to the Xbox One.
Im not even taking about the Xbox One im taking about a okay Gamescon press Conference people are getting riled up over.
