If there are many other games that interest you: absolutely.

If this is the most interesting thing you can think of: probably not.

That said, don't let anyone fool you: the Pokemon games, while lacking in revolution, are still really great RPGs. Just don't come into it looking for a revolutionary story. Come to it for the gameplay.

As I said to a friend: "Okay, in the past, roughly, 27 hours [in which I owned SoulSilver], 9 of it has been PLAYING FUCKING POKEMON"
    Yes, I'd say so.

Getting a DS just for Pokemon?  I'm not really sure, that's your call.  Getting a DS for all the great DS games?  Absolutely.  There are tons of great DS games.

I don't think one game is ever worth a console by itself. Since you said there's other stuff you want, I think it'd be good to go for it.

If you really like rpgs you have to get your hands on a DS. You're missing out on an entire generation of great games. I saw a gold Zelda DS lite on craigslist for $75. Check your local listings.

Depends how much nostalgic love you have for the franchise. For me there is no other game on the DS that would make me buy one for it alone.

If you ever find your self taking the subway / public transportation a lot, waiting in-line, or waiting to be picked-up, or just plain waiting for someone / something... you pretty much have to own a DS.

I live in San Francisco and am always waiting around for something or someone.  I spends hours each week playing my DS while I'm just waiting.

My PSP/Droid sometimes gets some loving too, but my DS is the one I love the most.

I would say if you're thinking of getting a DS just for this kind of RPG, you'll definitely get your money's worth. MIght wanna check out the SMT games too.

No platform is worth buying just for one game...

... is what I'd usually say, but Pokemon HeartGold is a game you can spend several hundred hours on, so I'm gonna go ahead and say yes.

Depends. If you know all the features and trademark gameplay well, then, defo'. Heart Gold/ Soul Silver can last any seasoned gamer 200+ hours.
