Will the Steam-PSN connection still work once PSN's back up?

I heard a rumour to the effect that Valve decided they backed the wrong horse, so to speak, and were going to back out of the agreement with Sony to have Portal 2 interconnectivity between the Playstation Network and Steam.

I was planning on getting Portal 2 for the PS3 on my birthday next week because I would be able to play co-op with my friends on the couch, and play the singleplayer on my PC, possibly as a Let's Play (though everyone and their dog has done an LP of this game by now, so that's less appealing).

So I wanted to know: Will I still be able to connect a PS3 copy to Steam and get my copy of the PC version once the PSN is finally back up?

I have not heard any such news, so I'm going to presume that it'll still work.

    Sounds like a dumb rumor.

What would they gain by backing out now? They already put all the time and money into developing the steamworks functionality (it works great by the way.)
