I'm thinking of buying a PS3. I need reccomendations.

I'm thinking of buying a PS3 by the end of the year now that it has a few games that interest me greatly. I am already sold on LittleBigPlanet 2, and I'm hoping Sony can release a PS3 bundle with that game. It just makes perfect sense. I'm not interested in the Move at all. Mostly because I already have a Wii, and I'm content with that. Valkryia Chronicles is another game that I hear great things about, and I need a fantastic JRPG so that fits the bill. However, I don't know much about the PS3's library other than their exclusive shooters (KZ3, R2, MAG etc), and I am burnt out on shooters. (I'm content with Bad Company 2).

I am interested in Final Fantasy XIV, but I don't think Square Enix will release two Final Fantasies in the same year, getting that by the holidays may be out of the question.

I heard of Trinity Universe, but I'm not too sure about it just yet. It could be good, but the fact that it's a crossover RPG with obscure characters mean that I probably won't enjoy it as much as I should.

Disgaea 3 sounds very addicting and I will buy it if I can find it. I think they're plentiful...right?

I've never played a Metal Gear Solid game before, and I don't want to play 4 without playing the first 3. I'm hate jumping into a sequel of a story driven franchise if it means I'll be lost in the plot. (I probably could have enjoyed Half-Life 2 more if I had played the first one)

If any PS3 fans can point me to some awesome exclusives that would interest me, please do so. I'm open to anything as long as it's good and not a shooter.

Go to reviews and take a look at those under the PS3 tab.  I thought the sole reason for having reviews on this site was to help people find games that they like....

I would recommend Yakuza 3, the first three hours or so are pretty rough but if you manage to get trough you'll have countless hours of fun.
If you haven't played the previous two there's a great recap for both of them when you start the game.

Valkyria Chronicles for sure.  I'm working my way through the main game and loving it.  I own all the platforms and handhelds and let me tell you the PS3 is easily the most used.  I'd also recommend picking up a PSP further down the line and giving remote play a try.  Access all your stuff from throughout the house or anywhere over WiFi.  Pretty slick stuff you can't do anywhere else.

Sigma 2 is an enhanced port of Ninja Gaiden II which was 360 exclusive, so somewhat. Sigma 2 has more playable characters, stages and extra missions.

Ninja Gaiden II's only advantage is the massive amounts of blood and gore. even that slows the frame rate down.

PLEASE buy Sigma 2. i'm starting my third playthrough soon :D

if you like ninjas and stuff, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is great. it's one of my favorite PS3 titles and it's not as difficult as the other NG games so it can't be too difficult on ya.

Okay. So here is what I'm thinking of getting all at once at the end of the year.
PS3 Slim w/ LBP2 bundled (hopefully this becomes real) $300?
Second PS3 controller $45
Valkyria Chronicles $25
Demon's Souls $40
inFAMOUS $30
Disgaea 3 $30
Final Fantasy XIV (if it comes out) $60 + w/e the monthly fee is
Uncharted 1 & 2 $30 & $45
Note:I got these prices from Amazon. My local game store probably has them cheaper.
Just over $600.
Maybe I should cut down on the games?

@Ace829: The beauty of the Disgaea games is that they have "guest appearances" by previous entries characters for those that have played them, but have as much to do with each other as the each of the Final Fantasy series do with each other.  Pick up, play, and enjoy D00D!

@Ace829: At the moment I'm pretty pissed at Modnation. The career can be frustrating, mario kart style. I enjoy the racing, but the best part is the creating. If you download the demo and don't like those parts, don't bother with it.

Also, the servers are always down. I've never gotten into an online race. I've had the game for over a week and only get connected to the servers twice.

I spend more time on my PS3 than anything else, and the reason I got it, Disgaea 3.  If you haven't played it on 360, Batman Arkham, Burnout Paradise, Valkeria Chronicles, inFAMOUS, Katamari Forever (if you're down with Katamari on the PS2, I know I am.), and Ratchet & Clank.  PSN has some gold as well, Burn Zombie Burn!, Flower, any PixelJunk game except Racers, one of the greatest dual stick shooters ever made Super Stardust HD, and something I just started getting into, Joe Danger (kind of a cross between Excitebike and Trials HD).

Yes I do.

@aurahack: What kind of game is Folklore? I heard of it but I know nothing other than that it's a thing. Also, I have a bad tendency to ragequit so Demon Soul's might shorten my lifespan...Ah fuck it. Is there a demo of it online? Also I love the soundtrack to Shatter even though I know nothing else about the game.

@Tebbit: What is Flower all about anyway? I heard it was an artistic indie game or something. I never heard of the other two you you said. Is Wipeout like Trials HD? @davidwitten22:

@davidwitten22: I see. I heard the racing aspect of Modnation Racers was mediocre. Did any patches improve the experience?

@Tactical_Kill: Is inFamous similar to the Sly Cooper games? Since they did make Sly after all.

Disgaea 3 you can find anywhere. if should be around 30 bucks for a brand new copy. That game is stupidly long too.
Valkyria Chronicles
Folklore
FF14 will probably be released at the same time as the PC version since most of the reports I've read said it seemed a lot more tailored to a console play style than to PC.
Uncharted 2. That train level will forever be one of my favorite game levels.
Eternal Sonata has some exclusive content for the PS3
Cross Edge isn't good, but its not bad. Personally I'm not a fan of the crafting mechanics in that game so if you get it and don't like that aspect either then buy all the dlc like I did.
inFamous
God of War 3
Ratchet and Clank

It's the best JRPG on the system right now, in my opinion. inFamous, Burnout Paradise, Uncharted 2 (Don't play 1. The "bullets don't actually work" thing makes it absolutely infuriating), Killzone 2 (For the sheer beauty of it), Shatter, Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time, Heavy Rain, Pixel Junk Shooter... Uncharted 1 is amazing. It's the only one I've played and I know the second improves on it in every way, but Uncharted isn't that hard, especially if you play on easy. The final boss may be incredibly frustrating but the game is still great and definitely worth playing.

I'd say Modnation Racers is definitely worth getting, though connecting to the network at this juncture is infuriating and I've still never gotten into an online race. They really need to fix that.

The Metal Gear pack is a retail product.  You'd need a PS2.

EDIT: I believe it was $30 when it was first released, but apparently it's pretty rare now.

@SJSchmidt93:  There's a Metal Gear pack? Is it in the form of Digital Distribution or is it an actual PS3 game ala the Sly Collection?

@EpicSteve: Ehhh...I dunno. If Sony can come up with some more good-looking games to accompany the Move I may consider it.

@FakePlasticTree: Although I'm young I've never been that huge on Zelda. I played like 3 Zelda games and I wasn't enjoying it as much as others have. Maybe I need to get checked out. Also I hope you're right about Final Fantasy XIV. This is the first MMO I'm truly hyped to play. Also, I already played Eternal Sonata for the 360. Still annoyed that the new PS3 content can't be DLC for the 360. Fucking Namco Bandai.

@Rokkaku: I heard the Yakuza series is like Shenmue. Is this true?

@Ace829: God of War Collection + God of War 3. Uncharted 1 and 2. Infamous. Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time. Demon Souls. Although Uncharted, Infamous, and Ratchet have shooting elements, they are definitely not focused on that as oppose to Killzone, Resistance, MW2, Bad Company.

I know you don't want shooters, but do not pass up the Uncharted games. They are two of my favorite titles the PS3 has to offer. Also, if you haven't played Trine on the PC, definitely pick it up on the PSN. It is an EXCELLENT action-platformer.

I think Square are still sticking to the 'FFXIV this holiday' plan. It could still get delayed of course, but right now I think it's still scheduled for this year.

From the demo I played, Valkyria Chronicles is more of a strategy RPG than a straight up JRPG. If it's a JRPG you're looking for, get Eternal Sonata. It's cheesy in the typical JRPG ways (voice acting, story, etc) but the combat is a lot of fun and the music is fantastic.

And I don't know how old you are, but if you've ever played the NES/SNES Zelda games do not pass up on 3D Dot Game Heroes. It is one of my favorite games of 2010.

Whatever happens, don't neglect the PSN. There are some wonderful titles on there you won't find anywhere else, like PixelJunk Shooter, Joe Danger, Shatter (amazing soundtrack), Trash Panic, The Last Guy, PixelJunk Eden, Flower, Echochrome, the list goes on and on.

Despite not being interested in Move, I would wait for Move bundles for the holidays. I don't give a shit about it either, but I would pay an extra $100 to be equipped while buying a PS3.
