I’ve been playing a lot of Hades recently too and I make the decision early into each run.

If I get some early boons with good synergy, I keep it going and try for a complete run. If I’m struggling early I just focus on kitting on my home base. However, Hades balances that really well. Especially once you get upgrades that make things like Darkness (your basic permanent currency) also give you health when you pick it up. It helps split the difference between run based power or building up your permanent base of operations. I never truly feel like I’m significantly limiting myself on either side.

No clue if this is as active as the PC one but I just started playing warframe and I’m keen to join a Clan if there’s one active.

I am in the camp of really enjoying both FFX and FFX-2, but for very different reasons. They are not my favourite entries in the series, but they are also not my least favourite. I will preface this by saying I have not replayed either game recently. I played both when I was a student and had a lot more time to spend into individual games than I have now. I am unsure of how either experience would hope anymore.

In the case of FFX-2, the thing that really made the game shine for me was the gameplay. I normally come to FF games for the story first and gameplay second, but X-2 was really an upset of that for me. The much more action-oriented combat combined with what was essentially the Job system, was extremely compelling to me. It is one of the very few JRPGs I can recall where I never got tired of combat. Leveling all the different Jobs appealed to my obsession with progress bars, and since I enjoyed the combat it was fun for me to master. I love very systems heavy games, and everything to do in X-2 really delivered on that.

It speaks to the [limited] story of the game that I remember only very broad strokes. I thought that the light-hearted fan service combined with the more serious Final Fantasy elements were actually pretty well done, it reminded of something like a Yakuza game in that respect. I don't think it was anywhere near the importance of the 'main' FF games, but I really didn't expect it to be.

Otherwise, Yuna and Rikku were probably my two favourite FFX characters, so it was great to see them making a return. That is entirely trivial however.

@forteexe21: Persona, but that seems to be something of a special case.

Jason and Jan both sometimes lean more towards Japanese games though. I know Jan had Xenoblade Chronicles on his GotY list.

It is too bad for me, as those are the games that I most connect with. I like all the staff but I rarely share their tastes in games.

@drm2thej: I am in a pretty similar situation, around HR60 and have ~100 hours with Insect Glaive. I basically have every Glaive I would want and my Glaive armor set complete. At this point it would just be farming Tempered Elder Dragons for Augments in order to better farm Tempered Elder Dragons. That idea doesn't appeal to me.

I did about 40-50 hunts with Hunting Horn as a secondary weapon though, and I am really enjoying it. All the weapons handle really differently and that is fun. Still, if you are already end-game geared you can catch up a secondary weapon REALLY fast in progression, and then it is just back to Decoration/Augment farming. I had basically every Horn I wanted after one day.

I will probably take a break from it for a while to finish some other stuff I am backlogged on. Which is fine, I got like 150 hours of playtime out of it. As somebody who almost plays exclusively story-based games, that is staggering to me.

Hats off to them for being willing to try. It seems like it would be a big effort, much bigger than Skyrim, to get working properly. I am all for them trying, because the more people who can play something is always good.

I wouldn't get it though, I wouldn't want to restart a game like Monster Hunter because it really doesn't make sense to. You can do everything on one character, and just change weapons around as you see fit.

Also whenever it comes to cross-platform stuff, I prefer to play it on PS4/Vita for Trophy reasons. It is a big reason that my Switch barely gets any use I think, it mostly excels these days as a platform for ports of stuff that I would rather play elsewhere.

Binding of Isaac is probably one of my favourites, it has my most play time for sure.

I really like Darkest Dungeon, but I have never actually finished it. It is almost too stressful for me, which I realise is by design. The fact you can over-level lower dungeons and are blocked from sending your best guys on them was something I never liked too much.

I like the idea of rogue likes a lot, and when I play them I often get very invested. I just usually don't start them, because I know it will be a huge time sink for me. These days, I like a game that I can play through and "finish".

The honest answer for me would be nothing, I REALLY dislike Soulsborne games and the trend of more and more games moving in that direction is not appealing to me. I was interested in Nioh until I heard it was 'samurai dark souls'. I'm cautious of things like the new God of War, because it looks kind of Souls-ish.

On the other hand, if you just mean character action-games with a more deliberate combat style (like Monster Hunter) I could be on board. I just would rather not see the new God of War game have bonfires, "souls" style currencies, and stupid difficulty curves.

It's a common thing for many people, I used to do the same. It took conscious effort, especially as I am in a job where I have to do a lot of public speaking, to stop doing. Even now, it still slips in occasionally.

Since I did it myself, I honestly don't notice very much. My brain just glides over hesitation markers and other speech affectations, so it doesn't bother me much. I realise that many of the staff come from writing backgrounds, and may not have any formal training in that kind of speaking. They do it very well, especially if you compare content now to some of the early Gamespot videos. Likewise, many of the staff weren't even hired for on-camera personalities. Jan, Abby, or Jason are all there for video production foremost.

That said, man I love listening to Jan talk about anything.

Monster Hunter World has consumed my life, in a good way. I haven't been so enraptured by the gameplay of a game for such a long time. The loop of 'base -> 20-30 minute hunt -> craft/management' is just incredibly satisfying, Capcom really nailed it.

I usually play games 100% for the story, so to fall in love with a good based so much on the gameplay is unusual for me.
