The Division: or how I learned to stop worrying and love the return of reviewer's tilt
Well said - it's actually what I like about reviews at GiantBomb -- if you know the reviewer's tastes, it helps make sense of how the review applies to yourself.
@rxanadu: I'm not sure what you're getting at regarding Austin. Also, really no need to bring Patrick into this. For all we know, Patrick laid the groundwork for what Austin has been able to achieve in his time with GiantBomb.
I've never really gotten into strategy games (even as a 40+ year old), but reading this article makes me think I should give it a shot! The variety of these guest articles is staggering; Austin Walker is such a great, great addition to Giant Bomb in so many ways.
As someone now in my early 40's, I find Greg's story very inspiring. Making a decision to change careers is never an easy thing; to hear that he has not regretted it should provide many of us the courage to do the same. I also really appreciate the humility in this piece.
I will say that I enjoyed the music in this game quite a bit. The mechanic of the music ramping up when you were in a long combo made it pretty exciting (for me). I'm, admittedly, not a big snowboarding or skateboarding video game player, but I found this game to be pretty fun and pretty approachable. I agree with your assessment of having friends to compete against; that's what kept me going when I originally played it.
